The Role
The primary function of this position is to progress the design and integration of innovative solar PV and battery storage systems in the NYC area. Bright Power works with leading architects and multifamily housing developers to design customized solar PV solutions on a wide range of new construction and existing buildings. Bright Power designs and consults on resiliency solutions for buildings to provide backup power utilizing solar PV and Energy Storage Systems technologies.

The position will require a knowledge of PV system design with a focus on identifying, communicating, and solving engineering risks that may impact a project’s overall feasibility, cost, or constructability. In addition to early-stage engineering coordination, the position will also require local on-site support including interface with AHJs and Building Departments to support permit approvals, communication with clients on technical issues or concerns, interconnection coordination and planning with local utility, field investigation, and QA/QC of projects in construction.
Primary Responsibilities
Prepare reports and technical documents to present solar design/feasibility findings to property managers, building owners, developers, co-op/condominium boards, and other decision makers at client buildings.
Evaluate the economic, engineering, or pragmatic feasibility of solar PV installation projects based on architectural and MEP plans on existing or new construction buildings.
Mark up building electrical riser diagrams to include solar PV system wiring and interconnections details and develop 3-Line diagrams.
Assist the account management team in estimating and selling solar PV systems.
Manage diverse details from construction means and methods to contract language and legal protection.
Work through the technical elements on the design and implementation of solar PV systems for both the mechanical and electrical aspects of projects, ranging from $200,000 to $3,000,000.
Attend pre-construction meetings with owners and general contractors.
Review and approve steel shop and electrical drawings from 3rd party contractors.
Support the design and construction of multiple projects simultaneously.
Assess and mitigate project risks in advance of detailed engineering efforts.
Develop and maintain outside engineering relationships with external companies used for engineering services, such as structural, electrical, mechanical.
Support the project management team through permitting and construction administration for all projects.
Generate Bill of Materials (BOM’s) for each project.
Work with team to refine and improve internal processes.
Qualifications
Excellent oral and writing skills to communicate with key stakeholders, including property management companies and building management staff.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Familiarity with new multifamily building design/construction processes.
The ability to create and manage a schedule and budget to required margins.
Experience managing vendor and client payment terms to achieve positive cash flow.
Understanding of financial models and management of budgeting cash flow.
Experience with design / build contracts from ground up that result in profitable construction projects.
Proficient in Helioscope, AutoCAD, MS Office Suite (Excel), Sketchup, and project scheduling software.
Working knowledge of NEC and NYC DOB Codes.
Familiarly with Salesforce is preferred.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering, Building Science, Construction, Energy Analysis, Environmental Studies, or a relevant field from an accredited four-year college or university.
1+ years of experience designing and providing electrical and/or mechanical design on design/build PV installation projects.

Work Environment:
Job sites have inherent hazards, based on the activities performed at the site. Protective equipment (such as: work-boots, safety glasses, hardhats, hearing protection, etc.,) may be required to be worn at times while on a job site, due to construction and safety hazards that may be present.
The noise level may warrant hearing protection. Visits to Job Sites may result in exposures to various hazards (such as: to extreme heat (100+F in boiler rooms), carbon monoxide, asbestos, lead paint, moldy dusty attics/crawlspaces, fiberglass insulation, hot pipes and/or hot metal, or high noise levels, etc.). Employees must be capable of using protective equipment and following specific safety procedures, as needed.
Physical Demands:
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision and hearing abilities may be required by this job, which include close vision and ability to adjust focus based on the task and surrounding activity. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The ability for the use of tools (such as: powered hand tools and other types of tools, including but not limited to combustion appliances, machinery and motors that have moving parts, belts, pulleys, elevators, motors, pumps and/or fans) may be required. Equipment for working at height (such as: ladders, mechanical lifts, etc.,) may be required to be used.
