The primary focus of the Bureau of Student Achievement through Language Acquisition is to assist schools and districts with Florida's English Language Learners (ELLs), totaling over 300,000. Florida's ELLs surpass most states in the country. Florida is ranked 3rd in ELL population, and although Spanish is the major native language of these students, the ELLs speak more than 243 different languages .

Job Description
This position is responsible for assisting in the management and coordination of state plans for English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), Title III of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965, also known as the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Dual Language Programs, Foreign Language Education Programs and other programs for English Language Learners (ELLs) or for other student populations targeted by the Bureau of Student Achievement through Language Acquisition (SALA).
Duties and Responsibilities:

The Florida Department of Education (FDOE) has an open position that is responsible for executing the following functions:
Plans, organizes and executes training activities such as Train the Trainer workshops, administrator training sessions, and other staff learningactivities related to the implementation of the ESOL Program, heritage/native and bilingual education programs, and Title III professional development requirements.
Assists in conducting on-site monitoring and compliance at district and school level to determine compliance with the Consent Decree in the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) et al. v. the State Board of Education, 1990; applicable statutes; State Board Rules, and applicable federal rules and regulations.
Coordinates, develops, and reviews Title III grant applications annually.
Reviews ELL data relative to the Title III grant; uses data for bureau professional development needs, technical assistance, and requests from other department offices.
Provides technical assistance with other offices/bureaus within the Division of Public Schools.
Plans, conducts, and organizes technical assistance to districts, schools, and other educational entities, advocacy groups, community-based organizations, and parents/guardians in the form of on-site visits, workshops, conferences, and oral/written communication.
Researches educational literature to identify trends, policies, and best practices related to the instruction of multicultural, limited English proficient, foreign language, and other student populations targeted by SALA.
Participates actively in professional learning opportunities to improve knowledge and skills in the areas of ESOL and Title III and increasing student academic achievement as well as training related to improving job performance.
Assists in answering Corrflow assignments.
Extracts and analyzes data to use for program-related activities, including but not limited to research, monitoring, and bureau presentations to improve the academic achievement of English Language Learners (ELL).
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to utilize equipment required for the position.
Knowledge of rules, statutes, and other regulations governing the educational services to ELL students
Knowledge of Microsoft and other software packages, including Access, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Minimum Qualifications:
Four to six years of professional experience working with ESOL students.
60 hours of ESOL Training
Preferred Qualifications:
ESOL Endorsed or Certified
Bilingual

+ + Annual Leave - All full-time Career Service employees filling established positions earn annual leave in varying increments dependent upon years of creditable service. Employees with up to 5 years of creditable service earn 8.667 hours per month, with 5 to 10 years earn 10.833 hours per month and those with over 10 years of service earn 13 hours per month. Employees in Senior Management Service and Selected Exempt Service positions are credited with 176 hours of annual leave upon appointment. In subsequent years, the annual allotment is credited on the anniversary date of the initial appointment.
