Function:The Shelter Aide is responsible for the safety and security of the clients andvolunteers who are in our facilities including congregate settings andnon-congregate settings. Treating all those receiving shelter with dignity andunderstanding, the Shelter Aide implements the rules of the shelter programfairly and equitably. Any special or unusual concern is to be brought to theimmediate attention of the supervisor.
Duties and Responsibilities:1. Provide inside and outside security and safety of the building, as wellas the shelterpopulation.2. Must always remain awake while on the job for the safety and security ofthe clients.3. Know and enforce facility rules.4. Supervise nightly shelter registration, providing accurate count forsupervisor's use.5. Maintain ongoing professional relationship with all interpersonal contacts.Mediateproblems with shelter population.6. Performs security and fire watches both inside and outside of the building.7. Maintain all program materials in an appropriate manner.8. Coordinate cleanup of facility both inside and outside as assigned.9. Provide information and referral to social service programs as needed orrefer to appropriate staff as needed.10. Perform record keeping duties.11. Attend all staff meetings as assigned.12. Performs all other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:Commitment to the mission of The Salvation ArmyStrong communication and people skillsDemonstrated history of providing professional, effective case managementservicesCompetent in providing a positive, solution-focused approach to working withtroubledprogram participantsAble to conceptualize, teach and model case management skills, includingmotivationalinterviewing and trauma informed care.Experience providing supervision to staff.Desire to serve others by building on their strengthsCompetent in working independently within clear parameters in a teamenvironment
Qualification and Education Requirements:High School diploma or G.E.D. required. Work experience commensurate with theduties andresponsibilities preferred
