  About Kingsford

The history of Kingsford is an all-American story of what happens when necessity meets ingenuity. In 1919, Edward G. Kingsford helped Henry Ford procure a stretch of timberland to supply wood for his auto plants. The wood waste generated by Ford's sawmill and production plants needed repurposing and the answer was in a new process for pressing blocks of reconstituted char. While the innovative charcoal briquet was initially marketed under Ford's own brand, it was eventually renamed Kingsford Charcoal in Edward's honor.

More than 100 years later, Kingsford converts more than one million tons of wood waste--using 100% North American ingredients--into charcoal briquets every year, making us the leading manufacturer of charcoal in the United States. Our charcoal has become synonymous with authentic grilling, good food, and most importantly, good times.

We pride ourselves on creating a quality product, and to do that, we make it a priority to hire quality people. As a Clorox-owned company, we offer our team members robust and comprehensive benefits packages, training and development opportunities, and a commitment to supporting career growth whether inside Kingsford or across Clorox's many popular consumer brands.
