The Product Assurance MMS Laboratory Technician is part of a technical team performing laboratory testing and evaluations of industrial and pressure piping components, maintaining quality processes, activities, and accreditations, and collaborating with our business groups, suppliers, and customers
Responsibilities:
Assess technical conformity and support crucial objectives for proficient and accurate testing, evaluation, and advising.
This role supports goals for safety, user confidence, and our business by providing technical evaluations of products, which can evaluate accurate manufacturing and conformity with specifications and requirements.
Physically test products to applicable product standards and specifications, using common tools: OES & XRF spectrometers, hardness testers, tensile / compression loading, pressure testing, nondestructive testing, and metallography.
Be a technical resource to inspection, evaluation, and product performance analysis and/or development
Prepare appropriate reporting/summaries and participate in resolving product-related quality and conformance issues
Provide outstanding, authoritative technical support to customers, suppliers, manufacturers, and service providers
Maintain required documentation for laboratory processes, equipment, testing, and results and work to maintain ISO 17025 laboratory accreditation for prioritised testing and services
Maintain required personal goals, training, and technical proficiency
Qualifications:
Associate’s AAS in a related technical field or a higher degree is required; a Bachelor’s degree in metallurgical or materials science engineering, or related technical field is preferred.
5+ years of experience preparing, testing, and evaluating samples in a metallurgical testing laboratory, including routine metallography, mechanical testing, and failure analysis.
3+ years of experience testing metals and metallic pressure piping components intended for industrial use (e.g., pipes, valves, flanges, fittings)
3+ years of experience with industrial standards, specifications, codes, and organizations e.g.,(API, ASME, ASTM, MSS, ISO, NACE, EPRI)
Ability to comprehend written standards, work instructions, user and maintenance manuals, etc, and conversant in presenting sophisticated technical information.
Ability to prioritize and handle stress, and work well in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work both independently and in a cohesive, goal-oriented team.
Maturity to work well with associates, vendors, and customers.
Strong critical thinking abilities with a growth mindset
Experience with quality systems (e.g., ISO, Six Sigma, LEAN, FMEA, 8D, 5-Why) and performance tools (e.g., Teams, Excel, PowerBI, Oracle)
Flexibility in working hours and ability to travel overnight if required.
Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, metallurgical, or materials science engineering, or related technical field
Previous leadership experience directly or indirectly leading teams
Experience with valve pressure or emissions testing
Experience with professional tools such as Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerBI), Oracle.
SNT-TC-1A certification of Level II or III.
