  Position Overview :

  The Facilities Instrumentation Department at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is seeking a Process Control Instrument Technician to perform design, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting on industrial pneumatic and electronic distributed instrumentation, and control systems. Reporting to the Instrumentation Supervisor, the Technicians will perform the following duties.

  Your specific responsibilities include:

  Respond to a wide range of Service Desk request to install, troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, maintain and commission the instrumentation and controls for conventional plant/laboratory facilities.

  Utilize equipment such as pneumatic and electrical instruments for measuring temperature, pressure, pH, flow, power, and other analytical signals.

  Configure and maintain Honeywell SCAN/Experion distributed control system.

  Configure and troubleshoot PLC's (Allen Bradley SLC5/05, ControlLogix, and Honeywell S9000 PLCs), loop controllers, and relay logic.

  Design, install and evaluate new process control systems and associated equipment.

  Modify existing instruments and control loops necessary to meet changing requirements.

  Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance.

  Maintain inventory, documentation, spreadsheets and procedures.

  Document work on computer based work tracking system.

  Specify and order parts.

  Some work is in hazardous areas, involving access to high voltage, chemicals, elevated work surfaces and radioactivity.

  Prepare and apply proper safety procedures.

  Perform other related duties as assigned.

  May work rotating shifts to support control room operations.

  May work rotating shifts and overtime as operational needs dictate.

  To be successful in this position you will bring:

  Completion of vocational school or apprenticeship program in industrial instrumentation or related field or a combination of relevant education and experience in instrumentation and industrial process control systems.

  In-depth knowledge of electronic, pneumatic, mechanical and hydraulic instruments and controls.

  Demonstrated interest and aptitude to learn critical control systems.

  Ability to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and calibrate pneumatic and electronic instruments and control loops.

  Ability to perform electronic work involving wiring, soldering and minor conduit work.

  Ability to read and interpret instrument, piping, electronic and electrical schematic and wiring diagrams.

  Must be able to work from prints, sketches and/or verbal instructions.

  Ability to read, write, and interpret logic.

  Knowledge of PLC programming and PID control loop tuning/optimization.

  Must be able to resolve issues independently and in a timely manner.

  Proven experience demonstrating the ability to learn new systems.

  Must have a working knowledge of the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70 E, and applicable OSHA regulations.

  Ability to identify hazards associated with work and to develop methods to mitigate those hazards.

  Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment and have an emphasis on quality service.

  In addition, preferred requirements include:

  Currently pursuing education in Instrumentation & Controls.Certifications and Licenses:

  California non-commercial driver’s license.Physical requirements and Working conditions:

  This position is represented by SEIU Local 2007 and the collective bargaining agreement between the university and SEIU Local 2007 governs the terms and conditions of employment.

  The expected pay range for this position is $51.67 (Step 1) - $ 62.58 (Step 10) per hour. Placement in the range is subject to the applicable Collective Bargaining Unit. SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory/Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
