Overview

　　The Windows + Web Experiences UX Engineering team is looking for a Principal UX Engineer to help us build the future of web experiences at Microsoft. Our team partners and collaborates closely with the Fluent Design System effort, delivering production code to support our engineering partners such as Bing, Edge, Microsoft News, Microsoft Shopping, Microsoft Ads, and Windows.

　　The candidate has experience building design systems and is a proactive problem-solver with a passion for getting the details right. They understand that the backbone of creating excellent, and accessible web experiences are HTML, CSS, and JavaScript - the fundamental building blocks of the web. They know these technologies down to the core - their strengths and their weaknesses. Their deep understanding of these technologies allows them to make informed architectural decisions and appropriate trade-offs when necessary.

　　Partner with our Design System team to help ensure design excellence in our process and workflows

　　Turn designs into accessible, performant, and shippable production code while partnering and iterating to make them delightful our users

　　Offer constructive feedback in the design and engineering process followed by creative and effective solutions

　　Communicate to stakeholders when technology constraints require design or engineering compromises

　　Follow best practices and provide code review feedback to your peers

　　Collaborate with others to bring ideas to life and create prototypes that convey experience intentions when static comps can’t tell the whole story

　　Communicate clearly and concisely with stakeholders

　　Partner and collaborate with our Fluent UI Design and Engineering counterparts

　　Qualifications

　　Required/Minimum Qualifications

　　8+ years experience working in product or service design and/or shipping production code

　　OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Graphic Design, Product Design, Visual Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 6+ years experience working in product or service design and/or shipping production code

　　OR Master's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Graphic Design, Product Design, Visual Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 4+ years experience working in product or service design and/or shipping production code

　　OR equivalent experience.

　　8+ years experience with core front-end technologies including but not limited to HTML, CSS, JavaScript or TypeScript

　　Additional or Preferred Qualifications

　　14+ years experience working in product or service design and/or shipping production code

　　OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Graphic Design, Product Design, Visual Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 12+ years of experience working in product or service design and/or shipping production code

　　OR Master's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Graphic Design, Product Design, Visual Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 8+ years experience working in product or service design and/or shipping production code

　　OR equivalent experience.

　　Attention to detail, with the ability to match redlines and design specs

　　Demonstrated experience translating design comps into accessible experiences

　　Ability to collaborate and work effectively cross functionally with other teams (Design, Research, Engineering, PM)

　　GitHub or other links showcasing your development skills OR a UI/UX portfolio is required

　　Comfortable working through ambiguity and competing priorities

　　Experience working with HTML custom elements or Web Component libraries (lit, FAST, etc)

　　Interest in web-standards, technology, and trends, with an eye toward the future

　　Previous experience or knowledge in the design systems space

　　Working knowledge of visual design tools such as Figma

　　GitHub or other links showcasing your development skills OR a UI/UX portfolio is required

　　Passion for invention, human-computer interaction, and seamless user experiences

　　A growth mindset to find out how things work and how to make them better

　　UX Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
