Responsibilities
The Quantum team based in Redmond is seeking a passionate and driven Principal Program Manager to drive internal systems hardware development for electrical and mechanical systems.
In collaboration with the Quantum technical teams, this leader will drive the program management of the internal systems hardware development. Responsibilities include the following: delivering the program milestones and documentation, directing the program reviews, closing the open issues, and setting multi-year development strategy.
Additionally, this role will partner with the Architecture team to align on long-term technologies development.
As part of the global Hardware Program Manager team, you will be representing the system hardware quantum computer program requirements and dependencies with other functional areas of the Quantum organization.
Key Responsibilities include:
Delivering the system hardware for the quantum computer to meet business objectives
Drive the milestone deliverables. Program resource planning. Dependencies mapping with teams.
Create the program documentation and specifications to meet the program deliverables.
Progress Reporting – Deliver reliable score-carding and reporting that provides program owners and leaders information to drive decisions across the organization.
Partner with the Architecture and Systems team to lead the systems engineering of the utility scale quantum computer

Schedule – Create and drive a realistic, but aggressive schedules and commitments based upon strategy, available resources, and demonstrated capacity of the team.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in hardware engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development
OR equivalent experience.
3+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree AND 10+ years experience in hardware engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development
OR equivalent experience.
8+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
1+ year(s) experience reading and/or writing code (e.g., sample documentation, product demos).
Master's degree or PhD in EE or Physics or Materials Science, plus 4 year of experience
Technical and hands-on background, especially in Radio-Frequency engineering, laser optics, cryogenics, quantum computing, compute systems engineering, materials engineering
Must be willing and able to travel (domestic and international)
Experience managing large development programs and cross-functional teams across multiple geographical locations
Experience planning, creating, and managing schedules and budget
Demonstrated ability to identify problem areas, drive issues to closure and ensure root cause understanding
Able to communicate complex issues and trade-offs to development partners and management
Technical Program Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
