The Open Communications Systems (OCS) organization within Collins Aerospace, is designing communications systems for Next Generation technologies across a wide variety of platforms. This position is for a Digital Signal Processing (DSP) Principal Electrical Engineer position to work in the hardware design and development department. This position entails working with and in a multi-disciplinary team creating and improving new designs.
In this position you will be working on cutting edge technological designs. We are looking for a candidate who can design, develop, simulate, optimize and test digital signal processing for microwave mixed-signal embedded systems. Typical workflow starts with analyzing customer requirements and exploring the trade-space to meet them. Complete detailed digital signal processing design and simulate it with MATLAB. Develop algorithm description documents and support firmware designers to implement and test the solution.

Qualifications/Experience Needed: • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience • Investigating and developing RF technologies and techniques • Validating the resulting RF concepts through test, measurement, and characterization in an RF lab environment • Assignments will range from initial research and prototyping to full solution development • Experience in the following: Embedded systems, Communications waveforms, Software-defined radios / Modems, Digital Upconverters (DUC), Digital Downconverters (DDC), Channelizers, MATLAB, Simulink, Modeling and simulation, Programmable logic / FPGAs, High-speed DACs and ADCs, RF SoCs / Direct RF FPGAs, Machine learning • Ability to obtain Secret security clearance is required
Security Clearance: • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance • Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements
Preferred Qualifications: • Understanding of RF systems including: antennas, power amplifiers, RF circuits, analog circuits, A/D & D/A converters • Understanding of various modulation techniques such as: ASK, PSK, FSK and QAM • Knowledge of radio architectures including radio topics such as: PA compression, intermodulation, phase noise, harmonics, products, LO leakage, etc • Prior RF lab environment experience with extensive knowledge of assorted test equipment • Experience in radio design / trouble-shooting with expertise in RF • Use expertise to perform reverse engineering to find root cause through unique test bench setup • Microprocessors architecture and programming: Digital signal processors, microcontrollers, etc. • Familiarity with FPGA development, including algorithm design and VHDL implementation • Familiarity with networking and wireless protocols • Ability to mentor engineers with less RF knowledge/experience • Good problem solving, prioritization, planning skills, highly motivated and result focused

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
