Rush University Medical Center and the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine is currently seeking a full-time Primary Care Advanced Practice Provider to join the Rush Lincoln Park practice.
*Advanced Practice Provider experience is required
*Applicants must hold an FNP or PA certification.
The Advanced Practice Provider Physician Assistant functions as a member of the health care team to provide high quality, comprehensive acute and/or routine medical/surgical care of Rush University Medical Center patients within the scope of practice granted in accordance with the RUMC medical staff bylaws. Promotes collaboration between multiple disciplines to ensure cost effective and quality patient care. Successful candidates will also meet all other state and federal regulatory practice and accreditation standards. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with the policies, procedures, guidelines of Rush, including the Rush University Medical Group Customer Service standards.
Rush has over 400 APPs across the enterprise that provide comprehensive patient care each day autonomously and in collaboration with other members of the health care team. With a Director of Advanced Practice and 30 Lead APPs across the system, Rush's vision is to have every APP practicing at full scope and top of license. APPs at Rush are highly competent, well-respected members of the healthcare team that contribute to the excellent quality care that Rush patients receive each day. Summary:
An Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a licensed independent practitioner who holds a master’s or doctoral degree. The APP NP Level 1 functions autonomously and in collaboration with health care professionals and other individuals to assess, diagnose, treat and manage the patient’s health problems/needs in accordance with privileges approved by the credentialing committee to provide high quality, cost effective care to patients. The nurse practitioner also serves as a consultant, researcher, and educator. Practice responsibilities of the nurse practitioner are in agreement with the Illinois Nursing Practice Act and relative to their practice specialty (e.g. acute care, primary care, family). Teaching and counseling individuals, families and groups is a strong element of the nurse practitioner practice. The individual who holds this position exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards Nurse Practitioner practice is within the framework of the RUMC Model of Professional Nursing Practice which includes five domains: Critical thinking, Technical expertise, Evidence based interventions, Leadership and Relationships and caring.
Responsibilities:
PATIENT CARE
Performs and documents patient history and physical examinations.
Diagnoses, treats, and manages health conditions appropriate to NP specialty and credentialing and privileges.
Prescribes medications, including controlled substances to the extent delegated including non-pharmacologic treatment modalities.
Orders, interprets, and performs laboratory and other diagnostic tests.
Makes referrals which are indicated to provide cost effective and quality care.
Performs advanced practice procedures in accordance with accepted standards, and are consistent with the skills and training of the nurse practitioner as granted by privileging.
MEDICAL/CLINICAL KNOWLEDGE
Utilizes research and evidenced based practice to guide decision making to ensure the highest quality patient care
Demonstrates advanced critical thinking in the care and management of patients within their clinical area
Provides education and support to nursing staff, Students, house staff, and other members of the health care team
Assumes a leadership role in clinical and system analytical problem solving and advancement of clinical practice.
PRACTICE-BASED LEARNING AND IMPROVEMENT
Leads or participates in interdisciplinary process improvement projects.
Participates and or acts as lead investigator in quality improvement/ research activities which require the clinical expertise and critical thinking of a licensed independent practitioner.
INTERPERSONAL AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Demonstrates interpersonal and communication skills that establish and maintain professional relationships with coworkers, and other members of the healthcare team

Serves as a consultant and mentor to health care team members in solving patient or care delivery system problems.
PROFESSIONALISM
Demonstrates compliance with documentation and coding requirements.
Participates in all required focused and ongoing professional practice evaluation activities (i.e. FPPE and OPPE) and annual performance evaluation.
Demonstrates accountability for own professional practice, including progress toward achievement of annual goals.
Maintains compliance with hospital and medical staff bylaws, policies, and rules and regulations governing APN privileging and credentialing.

Required Job Qualifications:
• Current state of Illinois Registered Nurse licensure.
• Current state of Illinois Advanced Practice Nurse- Certified Nurse Practitioner licensure.
• Six months of clinical practice as RN.
• Masters or Doctorate Degree in Nursing
• Graduate from an accredited nurse practitioner educational program
• Nurse Practitioner Certification by a national certifying organization approved by the Illinois Board of Nursing with renewal as required by the national certifying organization in specialty that is in alignment with practice
• CPR certification required; ACLS PALS or NRP certification required in specific specialty areas
• A high level of analytical ability.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills are required in order to lead, teach and interact effectively with healthcare personnel and families.
• Knowledge of electronic medical record (i.e. Epic)
• Ability to interact effectively with others in high-stress situations.
• The ability to check documents for errors, use a keyboard to enter or retrieve data, and closely examine specimen, images or reports.
Physical Demands:
• Ability to walk throughout the Medical Center and to be standing or walking most of the day
• Lifting or carrying objects 35-40lbs. and lifting and positioning patients, some of whom may exceed 300 lbs.
• Work conditions include performing procedures where carelessness could result in injury or illness and/or contact with potentially infectious materials and/or strong chemical agents.
