Summary of Duties:
The Gang Lab in Washington State University's Institute for Biological Chemistry seeks a postdoctoral researcher to take the lead in understanding the uptake of pesticides from contaminated soils by Cannabis sativa plants and their subsequent distribution within the plant. This project is funded by the Washington State Department of Ecology in response to the discovery of residues of DDT and its breakdown products DDE and DDD in field soils used to grow C. sativa plants after products derived from those plants were shown to contain small levels of these pesticides. The postdoctoral researcher will perform growth chamber and greenhouse experiments associated with the project activities in Pullman, WA, working closely with IBC greenhouse staff. This individual will also work with staff members in WSU's Tissue Imaging, Metabolomics and Proteomics Laboratory and a commercial partner lab to perform chemical analysis for DDT/DDE/DDD measurement for the soil and plant samples collected for the project with assistance from undergraduate student workers. The position will use interdisciplinary approaches to understand the timing, distribution and mechanisms of pesticide uptake by C. sativa. (hemp).
The position is initially available for one year, with additional appointment periods dependent on satisfactory progress and availability of continued funding. In addition to a competitive salary and excellent benefits package, the successful candidate will be encouraged to take part in the vibrant plant science and postdoc scholar communities at Washington State University. Furthermore, the region is well-known as a prime location for outdoor recreation.
