About Postdoctoral Position in First-Principles Simulations of Strongly Correlated Electronic Materials

  What You Will Do

The Group of Condensed Matter and Complex Systems in the Theoretical Division of Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) has an immediate opening of postdoctoral positions in first-principles simulations of strongly correlated electronic materials. The opened positions provide an opportunity to pursue transport, thermodynamical, and magnetic and other emergent properties in f-electron materials. The position will focus on using the first-principles many-body approaches to calculating the static and dynamical correlation functions, thermodynamical and transport properties. It will involve working closely with experimentalists on elucidating the f-electron heavy fermion physics and other emergent properties.

  What You Need

  Minimum Job Requirements:

The successful candidate must have a strong skill, with an excellent scientific record of publications, in computational strongly correlated electronic materials. Experience with dynamical property calculations in first-principles-based many-body theory (e.g., GW, Gutzwiller wavefunction, LDA+DMFT) is required. The ability to work creatively and independently, as a part of a diverse team, is important. Strong written and oral communication skills are essential.

Education: Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, and Materials Science (completed within the last 5 years).

  Desired Qualifications:

Experience with Wien2k or other all-electron DFT methods.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Salary: Competitive salaries are based on the date the PhD degree requirements were completed or the degree was awarded. Starting salary for a new graduate is currently $92,000. For more information go to Postdoc Program website at https://www.lanl.gov/careers/career-options/postdoctoral-research/index.php .

  Note to Applicants:

Please apply for this positions online, and send a resume, publication list, research interests, a brief statement of future plans and the names of three references to Dr. Jian-Xin Zhu ( [email protected] ). The position has an initial appointment of two years. Additional information on salary ranges and other benefits can be found online at http://www.lanl.gov/science/postdocs/ .

Candidates may be considered for a Director's Fellowship and outstanding candidates may be considered for the prestigious Darleane Hoffman, Richard P. Feynman, or J. Robert Oppenheimer Fellowships. For general information refer to the Postdoctoral Program webpage.
