  The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) is a pioneer of purpose-driven science and home to Cornell University's second largest population of students, faculty and staff.   Position Function

  This postdoctoral position involves primary research and related professional activities associated with developing theory to understand life history evolution and the ecology of infection.

  This role involves developing models to understand life history strategies and leverage time series data from human and rodent malaria infections to test existing theory, leading to publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentation of results at professional meetings.

  Anticipated Division of Time

  Research (100%) The postdoc will play a leading role in developing theory and improved statistical approaches to understand diverse life history in parasites, especially tradeoffs between growth and reproduction. Research projects will examine the evolution of reproductive investment and non-classical drug resistance, with the potential to investigate when life history strategies should be environmentally responsive versus genetically determined. The postdoc will work independently but will also contribute to intellectual interactions within the lab, and with collaborators in other labs. The postdoc will be expected to draft and submit research articles to top-tier scientific journals and present their research at professional meetings and conferences.

  This is a one-year term position, renewable depending on funding, available work, and performance.

  Requirements

  The applicant must have a PhD in biology, mathematics or a related discipline and significant experience in modeling population dynamics (familiarity with time series data and/or population dynamic models strongly preferred).

  Supervision Exercised

  May supervise federal work study students and/or undergraduate researchers.

  Pay Range:

  $54,840.00 - $75,000.00

  Pay Ranges:

  The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined considering the following criteria:

  Prior relevant work or industry experience.

  Education level to the extent education is relevant to the position.

  Academic Discipline (faculty pay ranges reflects 9-month annual salary)
