Job ID359130 LocationTwin Cities Job FamilyAcademic Full/Part TimeFull-Time Regular/TemporaryRegular Job Code9546 Employee ClassAcad Prof and Admin About the Job Responsibilities: Computational work 95% Successful candidate will apply computational skills to the analysis of existing large genomic and transcriptomic datasets in the Equine Genetics and Genomics Laboratory (EGGL). This individual will be responsible for development of analysis pipelines and the creation of resources such as pangenome graphs, haplotype maps, SNP-to-gene mapping, tissue gene expression atlases with GUIs, and co-expression networks. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will work closely with other lab members including other post-doctoral trainees to develop these pipelines as well as to acquire new knowledge and skills in the area of computational biology. Through the course of this work, it is expected that the successful applicant will build advanced skills in the analysis of SNP, (WGS) and RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) data and develop advanced Python and R programming skills. The postdoctoral associate will be expected to assist in designing research projects and independently plan and perform complex, multi-step analyses. It is expected that the level of independence in these task will increase over time. The postdoctoral associate will be expected to accurately record all experimental protocols and data; organize and interpret experimental results; and we be asked to periodically present these results to the laboratory group during laboratory meetings. 5% Lab work In addition to computational tasks, it is expected that the postdoctoral associate learn and participate in laboratory tasks such as DNA isolation, PCR and Sanger sequencing, if applicable. The researcher will also be expected to learn standard laboratory procedures for sample handling, organization and record keeping. Qualifications Required Skills or Education: PhD, DVM, JD, DDS or MD Preferred Skills: Candidates must have completed a PhD degree or equivalent foreign degree by start date. Background in statistics and computational biology is required. Candidates should have storing programming skills in both Python and R and have familiarity with the analysis of next generation sequencing data, and building of high-fidelity, user friendly, containerized pipelines. Familiarity with animal genomics research and pangenome approaches is preferred.
