Are you a detail-oriented accountant with a passion for financial statement preparation and analysis? We are currently seeking a Staff Accountant to join our team on a contract-to-hire basis in Tucson, AZ. As a Staff Accountant, you will be responsible for compiling and analyzing financial information to prepare accurate and timely financial statements for our newspaper publisher client. You will also play a key role in revenue and expense tracking, as well as budgeting and forecasting activities.

Financial Statement Preparation:

Compile and analyze financial information to prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.

Ensure compliance with accounting principles and standards while conducting thorough reviews of financial data to identify and rectify discrepancies.

Revenue and Expense Tracking:

Manage the recording and analysis of revenue sources specific to the newspaper industry, including advertising, subscriptions, and other revenue streams.

Track and analyze expenses related to editorial content, printing, distribution, and other operational costs, providing insights for cost control and budgeting.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

Assist in the development and monitoring of annual budgets, collaborating closely with department heads to align financial goals with overall business objectives.

Contribute to financial forecasting by providing accurate projections and performing variance analyses to support informed decision-making by senior management.

Requirements

AA/AS or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is preferred

2+ years of experience in accounting or financial analysis, preferably in the publishing or media industry.

Strong understanding of accounting principles and standards.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial analysis software.

Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.

Ability to communicate financial information effectively to non-financial stakeholders.
