JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
POLICY ANALYST
Department of Family and Support Services
Number of Positions: 1
Under direction, researches program policy and intergovernmental legislation options and offers strategic in-sight on matters affecting targeted populations serviced through city departmental programs, and develop grant proposals to obtain the funding for the programs, and perform related duties as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
· Tracks and analyzes federal, state, and local policy and legislation and prepares summaries, impact analyses, and recommendations to keep management abreast of new policy trends affecting targeted group populations.
· Conducts research and leads the development and implementation of the department’s legislative agenda affecting targeted group populations for the City of Chicago.
· Responds to inquiries from local elected officials and keeps them updated on changes, successes, or loss of programs.
· Attends community outreach and engagement meetings on behalf of the department.
· Conducts program best practices research, and planning and feasibility studies while analyzing and interpreting impact statements and economic and social trends affecting departmental programs.
· Assists in managing research, policy, and program activities related to departmental projects and initiatives.
· Serves on various inter-agency committees, task forces, commissions and working groups to ensure program policies are appropriately implemented.
Performs related duties as required.

Hours : 9:00am – 5:00pm
THIS POSITION IS EXEMPT FROM THE CAREER SERVICE
Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, the Social Sciences or a directly related field, plus three years of work experience in policy research and development, legislative research and analysis, or grants research and writing for programs and services, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience provided that the minimum degree requirement is met
Selection Criteria
This position requires applicants to complete an interview which will include a written exercise and/or a skills assessment test as part of the interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral and written parts of the interview will be selected.
Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:
· Previous work experience preparing policy and legislative summaries, analyses, and/or recommendations.
· Previous experience researching and analyzing impact statements, economic and social trends, data, and related policy and legislation.
· Previous work experience partnering with nonprofits, universities, service providers, advocacy, and/or community groups.
· Previous work experience with elected officials.
· Master’s degree in public policy, public administration, social work, or a directly related field.
