POSITIONPURPOSE: In accordance with Local Ordinances, State Statutes, FederalLaw and established departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines,performs a wide variety of police and law enforcement activities thatinclude an element of personal danger and exposure to adverseconditions. Duties are primarily service oriented and include dispensinginformation, arbitrating disputes, providing assistance throughreferrals, property protection, crime prevention and investigation,apprehending criminals, directing traffic, and other public safetyservices. Essential Duties ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Maintain continuouspreventative patrol in assigned area of the City, patrolling residentialand/or business areas for detection of violators, initiating contactswith both business operators and residents, and maintaining opencommunications within the community. Respond immediately to calls forpolice service, attempt to resolve domestic disputes, disturbances andother incidents through counseling, referral or other peaceful means,settle disputes among neighbors, juveniles or other groups, and resolveany and all complaints from citizens of the community. Maintain thepeace and security of the community, respond to public disturbances, andmaintain civil obedience at group functions. Render miscellaneous policeservices such as providing information and/or assistance to the public,informing citizens of available services in the community, promotingcrime prevention through community and educational programs, makingpresentations to public and local organizations concerning crimeprevention and related police matters, locating and reporting fires andfire hazards, defective water or gas mains, sidewalk and highway defectsor obstructions and defective street lights, and checking licenses andpermits as necessary. Provide for the safe and convenient flow oftraffic and pedestrians within the City, investigate traffic accidentsand enforces traffic violations, conduct driver intoxicationinvestigations, and promote vehicular and pedestrian safety.
