Job Description
SUMMARY:Provide a full range of physical therapy assistant services, including theservices given below, as directed by the supervising physical therapist.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:Carry out a program of corrective exercise and treatment for assignedpatients, as directed by the head physical therapist. Under supervision,administer such treatment as exercise, gait training, massage,whirlpool, hot packs, diathermy, ultrasound, paraffin, ice packs andtraction. Instruct patients on segments of the program including proper use ofwheelchairs, crutches, braces, and prosthetic appliances and devices.Administer traction to relieve neck and back pain, using intermittent andstatic traction equipment. Instruct, motivate, and assist patients tolearn and improve functional activities, such as pre-ambulation,transfer, ambulation, and daily-living activities.Observe patients during treatments and compile and evaluate data onpatients' responses to treatments and progress and report orally or inwriting to the physical therapist.Fit patients for, adjust, and train patients in the use and care oforthopedic braces, prostheses, and supportive devices, such ascrutches, canes, walkers, and wheelchairs.Measure patient's range-of-joint motion, length and girth of body parts,and vital signs to determine effects of specific treatments or to assistphysical therapist to compile data for patient evaluations.Monitor treatments administered by physical therapy aides.Confer with members of the physical therapy staff and other health teammembers, individually and in conference, to exchange, discuss, andevaluate patient information for planning, modifying, and coordinatingtreatment programs.Coordinate with other departments and the clinic staff to provide completecare to patients. Act as a liaison with nursing, medical staff, and othertherapists to facilitate problem solving and coordination of services. Act aseducational resource.Perform administrative duties such as taking inventory, ordering supplies,answering telephone, taking messages, filling out forms, schedulingpatients, and staffing the reception area.Maintain and care for department equipment and supplies and storage. Maintaindepartment records and files in accordance with facility policies. Performcoding of patient encounters and workload.Maintain regular and punctual attendance.Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Graduation from a physical therapy assistant program accredited by theAmerican Physical Therapy Association (APTA).A current, valid State license as a physical therapy assistant in any one ofthe fifty States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of PuertoRico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.Have at least 12 months of experience within the last 36 months as a physicaltherapist assistant.Must have and maintain current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)from the American Red Cross.
