Job Description:
This position is responsible for creating substation design drawings for affiliate operating companies to build and maintain their substation facilities. Individuals will provide engineering drawings, specifications, and material requirements for capital improvement projects with an emphasis on safety, quality, scheduling, and costs. This job will require field visits to attend pre-engineering and pre-construction meetings on projects. This position will be located in Birmingham, AL. Responsibilities can include but are not limited to the following:
• Utilize the company's design standards to prepare high-quality physical design packages needed to construct new or modify existing substations using AutoCAD. • Design the physical aspects of a substation including but not limited to General Arrangement Layouts, Foundation Layouts, Grounding Layouts
-Conduit/Raceway Layouts, Switchgear Layouts, Control House Layouts, Electrical Bus Layouts, Bills of Material, Specifications, etc. • Utilize CAD systems to provide engineering documents. • Specify and procure materials and equipment required for design projects. • Transmit drawing packages and supporting specifications using the Transmission Engineering job transmittal program. • Coordinate and communicate with other departments associated with Substation Physical Design. • Interact with manufacturers and vendors to resolve equipment and material issues. • Provide support to Substation Construction and the Transmission Maintenance Centers. • Attend project meetings at the substation site as required. • Participate in substation design review meetings. • Support the company’s design criteria and standardization effort.
Experience
• Experience using AutoCAD 2012 or higher is required. • Experience using 3D modeling software (SDS Inventor) is preferred. • Experience in creating Substation Design drawings, with knowledge and practical application of NESC is desired. • Experience working with substations for an electric power utility company is preferred. • Experience in the field of Substation Design, Substation Maintenance, or Substation Construction is preferred. • Ability to create substation physical design drawings from a One-Line or Three-line diagram is preferred. • Experience working with TEAMS, STOMP, DID, and MAXIMO is desired. • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office products is required. • Ability to build relationships and work in a team environment.
