Position Title: Performance Engineer I-III - Power Plant

Position Purpose:
This position is an entry level position that applies standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria to gather and evaluate data on power plant system components used to recommend operational or design changes to improve plant efficiency. Work assignments are varied and can be somewhat difficult in nature. Assignments require some originality and ingenuity, but involve limited responsibility.
Essential Functions:
Under supervision, complete engineering studies to improve plant equipment efficiency, reliability and the overall plant heat rate. This includes technical recommendation of bidders, establishment of design criteria, preparation of detailed specifications and drawings and technical evaluation of bids. This involves the application of the laws and principles of engineering and an understanding of individual system and equipment operation and overall plant operation.
Under supervision, collect and analyze vibration, flow, or other types of data on assigned plant equipment using the required equipment and computer software. Utilize all performance monitoring tools to collect data. Evaluate collected data to diagnose problems, recommend repairs, and assist with balancing of equipment, as required. This information is relayed to appropriate staff to ensure repairs are made to correct any issues that are identified.
Assist with inspections of plant equipment and systems, and provide oversight of contracted maintenance work during unit outages. Plan and coordinate small sized projects during major outages.
Under supervision, analyze the need for plant improvements and design and coordinate implementation of improvements.
Qualifications :
Performance Engineer I:
A four-year degree from an Engineering Accreditation Commission/Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET) accredited Engineering program.Performance Engineer II:
A four-year degree from an Engineering Accreditation Commission/Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET) accredited Engineering program.
Three years of related engineering experience.
An engineer-in-training (EIT) certificate is required.
Performance Engineer III:
A four-year degree from an Engineering Accreditation Commission/Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET) accredited Engineering program.
Six years of related engineering experience.
An Engineering-in-Training (EIT) is required.
Other Requirements:
The ability to demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proficiency with personal computers and Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook are required.
The incumbent must have a valid driver’s license.

Typical Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands:
This position requires frequent sitting and lifting/carrying up to 25 pounds; and occasional standing/walking, bending/reaching, kneeling, climbing, crawling, pushing/pulling up to 15 pounds and lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds. This position requires use of keyboard/computer. The incumbent occasionally works at heights up to 600 feet, requires the use of safety equipment, including a harness, in accordance with ANSI Z359 standards. This position requires good finger dexterity, hand coordination, good hearing and good vision. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to extreme heat/cold, dirt, fumes, chemicals, vibration, and noise. Tools/equipment used include floating pick scaffolding, vibration testing equipment, velocity measuring probes, electronic thickness testers, slag hammer, computer equipment, and surveying equipment. The incumbent must be able to analyze data/reports, conduct research, implement recommendations, coordinate projects, develop plans, present information to others, and work under pressure to complete assignments. This position must be respirator qualified.
