  PennDOT is seeking Winter Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanics and Automotive Mechanics!   As a Winter Diesel & Construction Equipment Mechanic, you will perform a variety of duties during the winter season, such as performing repairs and maintenance on various pieces of PennDOT equipment and diesel-powered vehicles, including heavy trucks weighing 26,001 pounds or greater, graders, backhoes, front end loaders, and other equipment.

  As a Winter Automotive Mechanic,you will conduct skilled maintenance and repair of various vehicles, equipment, and parts to ensure that all fleet vehicles and equipment operates at peak efficiency and within department standards.

  Opportunities are based on operational needs, so there may not be open positions for each job title in every county. To see counties where you might be interested in working, view PennDOT's District.Work Hours and Additional Information:These are seasonal positions lasting from September through April, but there are frequent opportunities for promotion that include excellent benefits and career advancement.Salary: Hourly rate of pay is based on location.Winter Diesel & Construction Equipment Mechanic earn $22.70 - $25.91Winter Automotive Mechanics earn $20.57 - $22.24REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

  QUALIFICATIONS - Winter Diesel & Construction Equipment MechanicMinimum Experience and Training Requirements:Successful completion of the Commonwealth's Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee Program; orTwo years of journey level mechanical experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; orAn equivalent combination of experience and training.Necessary Special Requirements:Must possess a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License.Must possess a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.Conditions of Employment:All employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders within the probationary period.Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.Certain positions may require employees to possess a valid Pennsylvania Class 1, 4, or 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.Certain positions require operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission.This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.QUALIFICATIONS - Winter Automotive MechanicMinimum Experience and Training Requirements:Four years of experience in the automotive mechanic trade; orCompletion of an approved apprenticeship; orPossess any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.Necessary Special Requirements:Must possess a current and valid Pennsylvania Class C driver's license.Some positions may require possession of a CDL of the class appropriate to the vehicles operated.Certain positions may require employees to possess a valid Pennsylvania Class 1, 4, or 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.Additional Requirement:You must be able to perform essential job functions.How to Apply:Resumes, cover letters, and similar documents will not be reviewed, and the information contained therein will not be considered for the purposes of determining your eligibility for the position.
