These servicesare designed to promote empowerment, foster self-determination andchoice, and inspire hope as the client progresses through the recoveryprocess. Peer support services are typically delivered to a person witha serious mental illness or co-occurring mental health and substance usedisorder who is actively involved in their own recovery process. Thisspecialized support is intended to complement an array of therapeuticservices and may be offered before, during, or after mental healthtreatment has begun to facilitate long-term recovery in the community.
