A Brief OverviewWithin a 24/7 Crisis Response Center, a center of Hope and Healing. The Peer Parent Advocate is responsible for serving as a liaison for parents/caregivers and providing individual support, and advocacy while in the CRC. These core supports are aimed to meet the patient and parent/caregiver with a trauma informed, empathetic approach that supports collaborative and non-clinical interventions that are delivered for family empowerment across the CRC walk-in center and the Crisis stabilization Unit. This individual will be a parent or caregiver who is/has raised a child with behavior health challenges and is personally familiar with the associated challenges and available community resources.
What you will doGreet families upon arrival, warm and supportive transition into the CRCProvide non-judgmental support to parents as they navigate the toll of removal and the stress of the crisis treatment continuum.Foster effective parent-professional partnership and promote the practice of family-driven and youth-guided approachesEducate parents/caregivers about maintaining self-awareness, self-help techniques, symptom management, clarify next steps within the triage, treatment, or discharge process; support the use of effective coping strategies based on their own lived experienceServe as a liaison for parents/caregivers through support that is strengths-based, and individualizedDeliver interventions and activities that meet needs, build on strengths, and achieve outcomesMaintain consistent, ongoing communication with the patient/family/caregiver's multidisciplinary teamWork with parents/caregivers on skill building, coaching, engagement, self-advocacy, self-efficacy, empowerment, and community connections and natural supportsAssist families in identifying parenting skills which could be strengthened, and model these skills to the families.Actively participates in team meetings, care conferences, rounds and other forums designed to facilitate the delivery of effective and efficient patient and family care.Education QualificationsHigh School Diploma / GED RequiredAssociate's Degree Human Services or related field Preferred Experience QualificationsAt least one (1) year Previous experience in a crisis response center, mobile crisis, or mental health setting helping children and families Required Skills and AbilitiesCommunication, De-escalation, Motivational Interviewing (Required proficiency)To carry out its mission, CHOP is committed to supporting the health of our patients, families, workforce, and global community.
