About Pediatric Cochlear Audiology Coordinator

  Overview

  M-F, 8 hour days.

  Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and Clinics (DH) is the leading academic/medical facility in Northern New England. The Audiology Section at DH provides a range of diagnostic and amplification/management options for all ages and works closely with Otolaryngology/Otology. Various behavioral hearing tests and auditory physiologic measures are performed including sedated and unsedated ABR, as well as OAEs, VNGs, VHITs, VEMPs and ECOGs. Our aural rehabilitation services include hearing aid dispensing, cochlear implant management, osseointegrated technologies and hearing assistive technology (HAT). The clinic strives to practice evidence-based audiology and employs best practices. We are seeking a fulltime Pediatric Cochlear Audiology Coordinator.

  Responsibilities

  Acts as the Clinical Coordinator for the pediatric Audiology and cochlear implant program within the Section of Audiology. Encourages standardization of processes and procedures. Maintains a clinical practice.

  Determines the need for, selects types, and fits appropriate amplification systems. Counsels on advantages and limitations of hearing aids, and instructs in their care and use. Advises and recommends assistive listening device systems.

  Obtains case history, administers appropriate diagnostic tests to determine the nature and degree of hearing loss (if any), site of lesion, need for further diagnostic work-up, and necessity and/or feasibility of amplification. Counsels patients on nature of hearing loss, communicative problems and planning for follow-up care as needed. Interprets test results and dictates or writes reports for medical records and referral resources. Provides a full range of diagnostic services

  Oversees/consults with staff audiologists, interns and fellows.

  Implements new audiological techniques and technology.

  Works closely with Otolaryngology, Pediatrics, Neurology and Speech Pathology on problem cases and developing referral patterns.

  Serves as a clinical resource for the Sections of Audiology and Otolaryngology.

  Reviews advanced testing reports, i.e., ABR, etc., from staff audiologists.

  Ensures calibration of all clinical and research equipment as well as instrumentation checks, etc. Ensures that proper equipment is available in the section.

  Requests and justifies the need for additional equipment.

  Works with other departmental leadership to develop and review annual section budget (capital and operational budgets).

  Oversees all pediatric audiologists and clinical support staff, including day to day activities and provides input for annual performance appraisals. Participates in the recruitment of clinical and research personnel.

  Works with instrumentation companies to procure and maintain instrumentation, contracts, etc.

  Oversees pediatric audiology clinical schedules.

  Plans and implements educational programs for staff in both Audiology and Otolaryngology. May teach at the Dartmouth Medical School in the areas of Physiology, Scientific Basis of Medicine and Anatomy. Plans and implements continuing education programs on the local, regional and national levels as appropriate. Teaches and interacts with Neurology and Otolaryngology Residents. Serves on the curriculum and planning committees which may impact Audiology education.

  Creates/directs Research and Clinical Fellowship Programs. Creates/directs Audiological Intern Program.

  Participates in cutting edge clinical research procedures. Develops and reviews the research budget through grant agencies and the Hitchcock Foundation.

  Performs other duties as required or assigned.

  Qualifications

  Master's degree in Audiology with 4 years of direct experience in cochlear implant clinical care, and pediatric clinical care required.

  Proven leadership skills desired.

  Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.

  Required Licensure/Certifications

  Certification by either ASHA or ABA (six year M.A.or M.S.) with eligibility for certification by the American Speech, Language, and Hearing Association required.Don't meet every single requirement?
