The City of Billings is recruiting for a PC Support Specialist to perform a variety of technical duties in support of the City's computer systems; troubleshoots general hardware and software problems associated with the City's computers and related equipment; answers the IT Help Desk Support Line; and installs new hardware equipment and new and upgraded versions of software applications.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:- Set up, install, configure, and support hardware, software, and peripheral equipment including computers, printers, scanners, laptops, tablets, smartphones, and other related equipment.- Set up and maintain computer security software and settings.- Provide phone support for the IT Help Desk Support line; enter, update, and close tickets in the ticket tracking software.- Communicate and interface with end users; providing end user training concerning hardware, software, and related equipment.- Evaluate and diagnose issues with personal computer hardware, software, and related equipment.- Perform diagnostic testing; identify and fix problems.- Ensure that routine maintenance is performed on equipment as necessary.- Maintain records of maintenance performed.- Check for and install upgrades.- Repair and replace damaged or defective hardware and related equipment.- Serve as backup to the Operations Support Specialist.- Run scheduled production jobs.- Monitor computer system operations.- Operate peripheral equipment including printers, tape drives, scanners, and related equipment.Required Qualifications and Skills:- One (1) year of formal training beyond high school in computer science, PC/endpoint support, mobile computing, networking, or related field.- Minimum of two (2) years related work experience in PC/endpoint related system installation and support.OR- Minimum of three (3) years of related work experience in PC/endpoint related system installation and support.AND- A valid Montana driver's license or must be obtained within thirty (30) days of employment- Must be able to successfully pass a Federal and State criminal history background checkPreferred Qualifications and Skills:- IT Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Microsoft Fundamentals, CompTIA IT Fundamentals (ITF+), or other certifications related to areas such as PC/endpoint support, networking, and Help Desk.Salary Range: $25.7626 - $31.3268 per hour. Salary reflects Step 3 and Step 7 of a 7-step pay scale.
