The Sheriff has announced openings for Uniform Patrol Deputies in the Patrol Division.
Applicants must have:
Full POST Level 1 certification;Excellent verbal and written communication skills;A valid Louisiana drivers license;Ability to work a 12-hour shift;Basic typing skills;Successful completion of the LPSO physical fitness assessment at 20% or above.##
The essential duties and responsibilities include the following:
Patrols assigned areas to enforce laws, investigate crimes, and arrest violators;Familiarizes self with assigned patrol area to gain knowledge concerning the persons residing within the area, the geographical layout and system of highways, roads, and alleyways, the location and types of businesses and normal hours of operation, and the location of emergency services/facilities such as telephones, fire hydrants, etc.;Drives patrol vehicle throughout assigned area observing traffic violations and issuing citations;Assumes control at traffic accidents to maintain traffic flow, assist accident victims, and investigates causes of accidents;Investigates illegal or suspicious activities of persons, quells disturbances, and arrests law violators;Locates and takes persons into custody on arrest warrants;Completes detailed reports regarding all crimes, vehicular accidents and other incidents where a response by the deputy has occurred;Preserves crime scenes until superiors and investigators arrive;Maintains weapons and equipment in functional and clean condition;Collects, secures, and properly transports all evidence to assigned location;Promptly and accurately serves and/or delivers warrants and other official papers, as instructed;Conducts security checks of property;Observes and questions suspicious persons and completes field interview worksheet for intelligence gathering purposes;Reports malfunctions in streetlights and traffic signals, dangerous road conditions, and any other conditions detrimental to overall public safety;Directs traffic during peak congestion periods;Assist general public on as-needed basis, which include providing roadside assistance;Patrol Deputies are required to pass the FTO program;Additional duties may be assigned.Applicants will appear before an Oral Review Board, which will be scheduled in the week following the deadline date. The Oral Review Board will consider, but will not be limited to the following information: years of service, college education, military service, training certifications, special skills, performance on physical assessment, and dependability.
This position will have a salary of least $37,800 and is eligible for state supplemental pay and a take-home unit.
