  Job Description

  This position reports to the Chief Communications Officer or designee and will support the City’s Public Affairs Office by disseminating news and other information to Spanish-speaking citizens via direct community outreach, press releases, social media, translation during press events, and other methods.

  Examples of Work

  Coordinates initiatives designed to promote the city and its services to the community.

  Translates various public-facing documents and other forms of communication into Spanish.

  Assists in the planning and coordination of community events that support Hispanic residents.

  Supports department public awareness activities through print and web-based platforms.

  Represents the department at various community meetings.

  Demonstrates proficiency in the City of Jacksonville's competencies.

  Performs related work as required.

  Keeps abreast of all Hispanic activities and coordinates initiatives designed to promote the city and its services to the community.

  Conducts TV and print interviews in Spanish language media.

  Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  Fluent in verbal and written Spanish and English.

  Knowledge of theories, principles, and practices of public relations, marketing, and event planning.

  Ability to develop and make presentations to large groups.

  Ability to establish and maintain records.

  Ability to use word processing, spreadsheet, and related software applications.

  Ability to operate standard office equipment.

  Knowledge of social media and proficiency with major social media platforms and social media management tools.

  Knowledge and proficiency of video and photo editing tools and digital media formats.

  Skilled in copywriting and copy-editing.

  Skilled in time management.

  Ability to understand historical, current, and future trends in the digital content and social media space.

  Ability to manage crisis communications.

  Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

  Ability to manage time effectively and multitask.

  Ability to be detail-oriented and work under pressure to meet deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

  Open Requirements/Supplemental Information

  A five-year combination of education and/or experience in public relations, communications, business administration, political science, marketing, or a related field.

  Must be fluent in verbal and written Spanish and English.
