Responsible for performing skilled building maintenance, equipment repair and grounds work; performs related tasks as required.May act as team leader on assigned projects or for specified periods of time.Inspects buildings, grounds and equipment for damages and needed repairs.Cleans air conditioners and furnaces and replaces air filters. Installs and removes electrical switches, outlets, fluorescent lights and ballasts, light fixtures, light bulbs and fuses, pulls wires.Repairs and installs plumbing such as pipes, faucets, replacing washers, unclogging toilets, urinals, sinks and drains.Constructs partitions, displays, shelves, counters; installs paneling, wallboard; joins molding. Inspects and cleans woodstoves and chimneys.Lays cement; replaces tile floors and ceilings.Operates a pickup truck, tractor, front-end loader, snowmobile, chainsaw and other motorized tools and equipment.Repairs, assembles, and moves office furniture; moves records, equipment, and supplies. Inspects grounds; cuts grass, trims shrubs, bushes, trees, rakes leaves, sweeps walkways, maintains signs.Constructs, installs, and maintains park signs.Sweeps, strips, waxes and buffs floors.Cleans and maintains building interiors, including restrooms.Plows and shovels snow.Maintains and repairs hand tools and power equipment such as tractors, mowers, chainsaws, table saw.Paints buildings and signs.Repairs roofs.Cuts, splits and stacks firewood.Answers park visitors' questions and provides other assistance.Opens and closes county park facilities.This description is intended to illustrate the type and level of work being performed by persons assigned to this job. High School Graduation or GED and one year of paid, full-time experience in building maintenance, grounds maintenance or construction work.Special Requirements:
An employee in this class may be required to work holidays and weekends and is required to wear a department uniform while on the job.Must have a valid vehicle operator's license.Required Knowledge and Skills:
Computer literacy and basic knowledge of email, word-processing, and other applications.Capable of driving a truck and trailer.Considerable knowledge of the tools, materials and equipment used in the repair and maintenance of buildings, grounds and facilities; plumbing; electrical work; painting; carpentry; grounds maintenance. Skill in the operation of power equipment; power tools and the use of hand tools.Must be able to lift thirty pounds on a repeated basis.Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records; supervise the work of others; work effectively with other employees and the general public; troubleshoot equipment failures.
