Responsibilities Serve as the on-site manager of multi-agency visitor center. Schedule work, coordinate volunteer workforce, Track budget and set short and long term goals for the visitor center. Produce professional education and outreach materials – such as multimedia programs, posters, articles, and other media on a variety of environmental or cultural subjects. Establish and administer partnerships via agreements and/or memoranda of understanding between a state or federal agency and other government entities and/or non-profit organizations. Write and design announcements and posters promoting special events, educational, or interpretive programs or informational brochures about natural and/or cultural subject matter for public use. Conduct field inventories and collect data needed to evaluate conditions and uses of public lands and recreational facilities. Monitor site resources. Identify resource issues or potential problems. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the qualification requirements - please be sure to include this information in your resume. Specialized Experience: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: serve as a park guide; develop and present interpretive talks; develop interpretive products such as pamphlets, displays, signage, or multimedia and web programs; assist in the management of a visitor center or contact station; conduct visitor and resource use surveys; and analysis of visitor use of public lands and resources. -OR- Education: Possess a Master's or equivalent degree or two years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree in a field related to the position being filled. The degree should have a major study in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. - OR- Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement. Physical Demands: The work ranges from sedentary office work to field work. Field work may occur in rugged terrain; to include very steep, wet, muddy, snow covered, rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces. The work of the position requires physical exertion such as but not limited to, driving over unpaved roads; walking over rough terrain or inclines; paddling, rowing, or otherwise operating watercraft; standing for long periods of time, bending, crouching, and stooping, digging, hiking, lifting, biking, backpacking, stretching, reaching, or similar activities. Work requires safe operation of 4x4 vehicles on unimproved roads and the physical stamina and ability to maintain and/or repair trails, trailheads, fencing, and other facilities in the field. Work Environment: Work is performed in both an office and field environment. Field work may occur in all types of weather conditions, terrain, and elevations. Work may take place in an extremely remote environment and may require primitive camping and living skills of up to two weeks in duration. In winter, work may be required in temperatures at or below freezing. Education Applicants may qualify for these positions based on experience, education, or an equivalent combination as described in the Qualifications section of this announcement.
