The Parent Liaison serves as the critical point of contact for the parents, and caregivers of their assigned students. In so doing, they work collaboratively with education, clinical and campus life staff to respond to questions as well as to proactively report on students’ academic performance, mental health and social development in accordance with ITEPs (Individualized Transdisciplinary Education Plan) and behavior plans, as appropriate. He/she will maintain key relationships and collaborate as needed and required with students, their families and all levels of staff at the Shrub Oak International School to ensure that the individualized needs of each student are met. Having access to confidential information, discretion and independent judgement is required.
Schedule/Expected Hours of Work
Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM, with two extended shift from 12 PM to 8 PM on a designated day. Additionally, there will be a weekend shift once a month, rotating among the team members.
Essential Functions
Provide concierge service and serve as the critical point of contact for assigned students and their parents, families and/or care givers
Develops strong, working, collaborative relationships with assigned students as well as their parents, families and/or care givers
Creates and maintains a welcoming environment for parents, family members and/or other caregivers as appropriate, and students particularly during school entry at initial admission and during the course of the student lifecycle
Proactively maintains communication with students, family members and/or other caregivers as appropriate to effectively address parent questions, concerns, student progress, development and challenges
Collaborates with other clinicians, and members of the education and campus life teams to ensure that each student's progress is holistic, integrated, and takes into account each student's developmental, emotional and social needs
Maintains appropriate records, evaluations and reports as required
Participates in admissions, clinical and Shrub Oak activities to advance field knowledge and engages in activities to remain at the forefront of professional development and advancements
Actively assists with other programs, events, and services administered through Shrub Oak and can be involved in a wider range of responsibilities
Performs any other responsibilities as needed and required
Minimum Experience and Qualifications
Minimum BA in psychology, sociology, communications or related field; master’s degree in social work, psychology, mental health counseling or a related degree is preferred
Experience working with families and students with developmental disabilities or on the autistic spectrum is strongly preferred; school experience is a plus
Demonstrated ability to work with parents and families on matters concerning their assigned students in a holistic, balanced approach
Competencies
Exceptional communication (oral and written) and active listening skills to appropriately understand and respond parent needs. Must also be able to effectively communicate and interact with faculty, staff, families, and all external constituencies
Excellent analytical capabilities, with a demonstrated ability to understand, problem solve, and make sound determinations/decisions in situations with complex facts and data
Demonstrated ability to achieve desired results working collaboratively in a dynamic environment with multiple stakeholders, cross functionally (with other disciplines) while being sensitive and responsive to the diverse needs of students, families, faculty, and staff, with a high degree of cultural competency and collegiality
Ability to multi-task, and handle multiple situations with discretion, and sensitivity to a variety of factors, while exercising sound judgment
Computer proficiency and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other software
