Paralegal – Patent Prosecution

A leading and award-winning law firm in Salt Lake City is seeking a Paralegal specializing in patent prosecution to join their Intellectual Property team. Ideal candidates will have at least 3 years of full-cycle patent prosecution experience in U.S. and international dockets. This role is client facing and requires someone with great communication skills, follow through, organization and ability to meet deadlines. What will the Paralegal be doing?
Managing client relationships and patent prosecution lifecycles
Managing timekeeping and billable hours
Managing documentation and uploading to client databases
Assisting Attorney’s with drafting correspondence
Managing U.S. and international patent portfolios
Managing U.S. and international dockets
Drafting patent prosecution documents, new applications, formalities, patent appeals, examination, post-allowance actions, etc.
Filing and uploading documents
Conducting research on country law requirements
Gathering applications status updates and downloading documents from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office portal
Managing and maintaining IDS database in the docketing system
Preparing ancillary documents
Ensuring accuracy of documents and that deadlines are met
Other duties as assigned
What is required?
3+ years of full-cycle patent prosecution experience
Full understanding of patent lifecycle/progression (U.S. & International)
Bachelor’s Degree and/or Legal Certifications preferred
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
Professional written and verbal communication skills
Strong client management skills
Time management and ability to meet tight deadlines
Strong organizational skills
Strong problem solving
Expertise in U.S. Patent and Trademark Office database, international trademark databases and docketing systems
