Job Title: Packaging Development Specialist
Summary:
Lead packaging data collection and entry in the Product Lifecycle Management system while supporting the engineering team’s ongoing packaging development on new programs and legacy improvements.
In this role, you’re directly supporting Packaging Engineering team; collaborating with Packaging Engineers, internal stakeholders, and external vendors to assure the completeness and integrity of the team’s foundational data, documentation, and processes. In addition, you will have the opportunity to develop project-based packaging components and/or complete systems from start to finish with full support from the team throughout.
Must Haves:
Must have experience (0-2 years) within packaging or mechanical engineering. Packaging more highly preferred, and years of exp. can be at the University level.
Communicate effectively written, verbal, etc.
Passion for continued learning, taking on challenges proactively and always finding the “can-do”, hands-on solutions.
Responsibilities:
Lead Packaging Engineering’s efforts to bring all primary product SKUs to a 100% packaging specification complete status.
Team with engineers to define gaps in the BOM accuracy and content (weights, dimensions, quantities, drawings, pallet patterns, container load plans, SOPs)
Manage BOM integrity in the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system using data and files you proactively receive from the engineers, external vendors, and your own hands-on experience with the product/packaging in the distribution center.
Carry out validation exercises by inspecting what we expect to ensure PLM system data matches the actual packaging, documenting the results and communicating next steps.
Support the Packaging Engineering team on development of packaging for global programs via package validation testing (ISTA Series 3 & 6), carton artwork updates (Illustrator), pallet patterns (CAPE) and in other areas as they arise.
Curates the team’s comprehensive “field guide” that contains the packaging development considerations required across global supply chain, documents internal best practices and department standards.
Will be working directly with the Packaging engineering team to help fill in gaps in documentation and hands on support for testing.
Majority of the role will take place at NYHQ, and testing will take place on-site at Linden NJ Distribution Center (approx. 1-2 times a month). Will help coordinate testing, review reports from those tests while working under the guidance of our experienced engineers.
Filling in the gaps for specifications on legacy products. Working directly with vendors and manufacturing partners to collect information and ensure that is being input and housed into databases.
Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Packaging Science or Engineering
0-2 years applicable experience
Experience with packaging development, documentation, and tools such as:
Development software (e.g., CAPE/TOPS, ArtiosCAD, Solidworks)
Distribution testing protocols (e.g., ISTA) and reports
Lifecycle Management Systems, BOM/Spec Database
Packaging or mechanical experience
