Other relatedduties may be assigned.Create short- and long-term goals for the Outdoor Program congruent with theorganization's mission, vision, and values. Lead the OP to meet thosegoals. Including goals assisting our students (particularly first generationand inner city students) in expanding their experiences and appreciatingvarious aspects of the outdoors in Western Colorado.Provides leadership in the development of curricular and extra-curricularoutdoor programs for students through experiential learning opportunities,in areas of environment and recreation programs.Develops and produces on-going special opportunities and training to enhancethe development of leadership skills and awareness among students.Responsible for the oversight of the rental program including inventorytracking, purchasing, rental software management, and advertising withthe goal of generating year to year financial growth.Recruit, interview, train, supervise, and evaluate OP professionalsand student staff. Develop and execute a staffing plan. Oversee studentschedulEnforce, update, and edit program policies and procedures.Propose updates/revisions to standard operating procedures based on industrybest practices with input, consultation, and recommendation from theOutdoor Recreation Industry Studies program.Schedule and facilitate regular staff meetings to address progress on coregoals.Coordinates services offered by the Outdoor Program, including, but notlimited to:Afternoon outings and day programsWeekend and Semester Break (fall and spring) Outdoor AdventuresWeekly Kayak Pool SessionsYearly certification programs (WFR, CPR, etc.)Special events and campus outreach activitiesAssist with recruiting and retaining students as per the main goals of theuniversity and Student ServicesHave a presence at recruiting/retention events (Mesa Experiences, NewMav Days, Homecoming, Parents' Weekend, Student Services initiatives, etc.)Assist in raising the University's profile by being a good partner andpillar in the community and/or region and state at conferencesCollaborating with partners in the region to host students events, i.e.local snowmobiling association "Snowskippers" or the Grand Mesa NordicCouncil.Oversee the assistant coordinator in the execution of programming including(but not limited to)Trip Operations: Travel Authorization forms, rosters, liabilitywaivers, permitting.Trip Logistics: Expenses and budgeting, gear/equipment, vehiclereservation, food packing, behavior expectatins of both staff and studentsProgram Assessment: Trip reporting, enrollment tracking, instructorprofessional developmentEmergency Response: Supports the Outdoor Program Emergency Response Systemby serving as office responder for several trips each semester.Responsible for both departmental and participant risk management:Ensure Outdoor Program trips operate in compliance with public landregulations and environmental ethics.Ensuring student employees and particpants adhere to safety guidelines andfollow appropriate emergency/accident procedures for all injuries andincidentsAcquire permits and maintain land use documentation as appropriate.Responsible for the Outdoor Program budget, including budget management andcash handling.Hold regular office hours Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., alsoperforming work outside of these hours, as necessary, to support theprogram. Hours may be adjusted with approval of the Director of Student Life.Additional Essential Duties of the Outdoor Program Leadership Team- Thefollowing additional responsibilities are essential to the Outdoor Program.Through collaborative teamwork or as supplemental skill sets to each other,they are required to be fulfilled by either the Coordinator or AssistantCoordinator, or both. Duties listed below are subject to change based o theneeds of the campus and the skill set of the other professional staff member.Oversee the Kayak Roll sessions at the CMU rec center pool.Seek out new outdoor activities and experiences in coordination with communityand regional groups to expose CMU students to a wide range of outdooractivities including but not limited to: water sports, hiking,cycling, motorized sports, sports shooting, archery, etc.Minimum Qualifications Required:Bachelor's degree required from an accredited institution.Professional experience of 3+ years in outdoor programming includingstaff management, and budgetary managementWilderness First Responder certification (or willingness to get it.)Outdoor Adventure Skills: Skill and teaching/trip leading experiencein backpacking and in at least five of the following areas is required:Whitewater Kayaking, Whitewater Rafting, Rock Climbing, Caving,Canyoneering, Backcountry Skiing, Avalanche Rescue, Swift WaterRescue, International Travel in Developing Countries, Mountaineering orSea Kayaking. Knowledge of use and maintenance of various types of outdoorequiLanguage and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal, verbal,and written communications skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpretthe most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively, both orally andwriting, to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability todemonstrate rapport and care for students. Demonstrated experience andunderstanding of great customer service and evidence of having builtcollaborative partnerships. Ability to work with diverse groups of people.Mathematical Skills: Experience with budget and financial management.Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest,proportions, and percentage.Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data,establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret anextensive variety of instructions in verbal, mathematical or program formand deal with sever abstract and concrete variables.
