The Optical Engineer will have the responsibility for developing, implementing, and maintaining Epic
Sciences' image acquisition platform. The desired candidate will have experience in working with whole-
slide imaging microscopes and be proficient in performing routine maintenance, calibration, software
configuration, and troubleshooting of imaging equipment and related systems. They will serve as the
primary point of contact for any operational issues concerning Epic's imaging equipment in both the
research and CAP/CLIA laboratories.
ELEMENTS:
Education/Experience: An MS in a related engineering discipline strongly preferred,
although candidates with a BS and/or significant relevant experience without a degree may be
considered. Experience with imaging microscopes, preferably fluorescence and working knowledge of
light sources, filters and fluorophores preferred.
Communication Skill: Works effectively with both internal and external audiences to
identify and resolve issues, ability to maintain accurate and detailed records; ability to effectively
communicate to the immediate team and coordinate resources for execution of assignments.
Interpersonal Skill: Demonstrated ability to interact with teams and individuals;
ability to manage relationships with other cross-functional teams. Ability to propose solutions and
balance priorities, making recommendations based on experience and relevant constraints
Judgment: Ability to assess the complexity of various issues and quickly
escalate to in-house subject matter expert(s) if the issue persists. Ability to handle pressure and focus on
situations of ambiguity and uncertainty.
Execution: Efficient at time management and prioritization; ability to
follow instructions and troubleshoot problems and generate effective solutions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Conduct regular instrument maintenance on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
Provide support for post-repair instrument testing and release.
Review and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to equipment operation and
maintenance.
Assist in the design, documentation, validation, and troubleshooting of imaging equipment.
Serve as the primary point of contact for Epic's imaging systems (fluorescence microscopes) in
both the research and CAP/CLIA laboratories.
Collaborate with vendors and internal staff to ensure continuous and proper operation of these
systems.
Proactively troubleshoot and resolve issues as they arise in a timely manner.

SALARY RANGE: $105,000-130,000 per year
