  Title: OPS Health Information Specialist

  Location: Naples

  Your Specific Responsibilities:

  This is a specialized clerical position responsible for independently processing patients accessing Collier County Health Department clinical services which include scheduling, registration, clinic check-in/out and Health Information Management. Collects fees and performs billing functions. Individual must be able to enter data into the state automated health management system, retrieve client information and print out labels and reports. Communicates with physician offices, Medicaid, and other insurers to obtain insurance and other information. This is a full time position anticipated to work 40 hours per week. This position is under the direct supervision of the Health Information Manager-SES.

  Makes appointments for Naples Communicable Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP) clinics using the Health Maintenance System (HMS).

  Registers clients for clinic services in HMS and determines client Financial eligibility and payment status.

  Interprets for non-English speaking clients and for non-Spanish speaking providers when time allows.

  Manages the medical records systems. Makes copies of medical records as requested by physicians and clients.

  Enters services into the services and billing module of HMS and collects any due fees when clients check out.

  Verifies payment source for each client prior to each visit.

  Provides general clerical and data entry functions such as registering children in FL Shots, verification of Medicaid, Medicare, and 3rd party Insurance’s participation.

  Process records sent to storage and retrieves records according to retention schedules.

  Performs other duties as assigned.

  Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems

  Knowledge of personal computers, various software, email, and database management

  Skilled in typing and the use of word processing equipment

  Skilled in using a multi-line desk phone

  Ability to handle telephone calls in a courteous and effective manner

  Ability to communicate in writing and verbally in both English and Spanish

  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others

  Ability to schedule and coordinate assigned work responsibilities

  Ability to work independently

  Ability to follow instructions

  Ability to review data for accuracy and completeness

  Skilled in computer software including data entry, Microsoft applications and search tools.

  Ability to provide great customer service skills

  Ability to be dependable and punctual for assigned workday and times

  Ability to maintain professional appearance

  Ability to apply continuous quality improvement tools and techniques to monitor outcomes and improve efficiencies

  Ability to maintain confidentiality

  Qualifications:

  Required:

  A valid driver’s license.

  Bilingual in English and Spanish both written and verbal.

  Able to lift 25 lbs. and climb on small ladders.

  Emergency Duty: Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in Special Needs or Red Cross Shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural in accordance with Florida Statute 252.42.

  Preferred: High School Diploma or equivalent.
