  Summary The Secret Service is seeking persons who retired from the CSRS or the FERS to support our integrated mission and immediately impart their knowledge and experience to the current workforce. The Criminal Investigator's mission is to perform critical protective and investigative assignments. Responsibilities During the course of working in the Office of Protective Operations, Criminal Investigators (Special Agent) carry out critical investigations and protection assignments. Duties include: Providing protection for various protectees Conducting investigations Hired with the OPM approved salary off-set waiver granted to the Secret Service, annuitants can earn their full salary and their full annuity without penalty. Dual Compensation Off-Set Waiver For Criminal Investigators (Special Agents) Approved For Rehires Work Full-Time Maximum age limit (under 60 at the time of appointment) Receive Overtime Earn Full Annuity and Full Salary Earn Annual Leave and Sick Leave New hires under this authority will be offered a 4-year term non-status appointment in the competitive service. Individuals appointed before December 31, 2024 may continue their employment until their not-to-exceed date is reached. Law Enforcement Availability Pay (LEAP) and additional compensation of 25% of the base salary will be added to locality pay. Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. citizenship is required. Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service. Conditions of Employment If selected, you may be required to: Obtain and maintain a Top Secret Tier 5 clearance. For more information visit OPM Mythbuster Page. Submit to a drug test and credit check prior to your appointment and random drug testing while you occupy the position. Submit to a polygraph examination prior to your appointment. Undergo occasional domestic and foreign travel. Possess a valid U.S. state motor vehicle operator's license and maintain a valid license while you occupy the position. Carry and use a firearm. Maintaining firearm proficiency is also mandatory. You will be ineligible to occupy this position if at any time you have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, unless you received a pardon or your conviction was expunged or set aside. Complete a pre-employment medical examination (including vision, hearing, cardiovascular and mobility of extremities) by an authorized Government physician and be determined physically fit to perform strenuous and physically demanding duties. You will be required to undergo regular physical examinations and to maintain a level of physical fitness in accordance with the standards and policies of this agency. Successfully complete a Mixed Basic or Reintegration Training Course as applicable. Please Note: The Secret Service prohibits employees from having visible body markings (including but not limited to tattoos, body art, and branding) on the head, face, neck, hand and fingers (any area below the wrist bone) (exception: a single conservative and unobtrusive tattoo in the form of a ring is authorized on one finger). Qualifications You qualify for the GS-12 level (starting salary $74,441.00) if you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level, which is in or directly related to coordinating difficult and complex protection assignments or staff assignment including but not limited to: covering designated security post at official functions/events and restricting secure areas to authorized personnel; as assigned, keeping in close proximity to designated protectee and taking any measure required to protect his/her life; providing protection while on travel with a protectee; supporting protective operations by interviewing unauthorized individuals attempting to gain access to secure areas to determine whether a security threat exists; writing associated reports; and applying protective investigation and case management methodology. Series 1811 - OPM Qualification Standards for Occupational Series - 1811 Selective Placement Factor: In addition to the minimum qualifications described above, you must meet the following requirement(s) to be considered qualified for the position: Applicant must possess a current valid driver’s license. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience) Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Due weight will be given to performance appraisals and incentive awards in merit promotion selection decisions in accordance with 5 CFR 335.103(b)(3). Education No educational requirements for this position. General Medical Requirements: As determined by the Office of Personnel Management, the duties of this position require moderate to arduous physical exertion involving walking and standing, use of firearms, and exposure to inclement weather. Manual dexterity with comparatively free motion of fingers, wrist, elbows, shoulders, hips and knee joints is required. Arms, hands, legs and feet must function sufficiently in order for applicants to perform the duties satisfactorily. Since the duties of this position are exacting and involve the responsibility for the safety of others under trying conditions, applicants must possess emotional and mental stability. Any condition that would hinder full, efficient performance of the duties of this position or that would cause the individual to be a hazard to himself/herself or to others is disqualifying. There are also specific medical requirements for this position, and any chronic disease or condition affecting the respiratory, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, digestive, nervous, endocrine, lymphatic, nervous, genitourinary, and other systems that would impair full performance of the duties of the position may also be disqualifying.
