　　Essential Functions:Responsible for supervising department staffFollowing established SOP's and adhering to state, federal and other accrediting body requirements, prepare and process samples, and collect information about the composition of substances to support the analytical testing needs of clients, for such purposes as quantitative analysis, and product developmentPrepare necessary standards, solutions, reagents, and samples for sample analysesUtilize specialized laboratory equipment and instrumentation to process and analyze samplesPerform equipment and instrumentation set upAccurately record observations and data and basic interpretation of dataMaintain the integrity of procedures and record professional activity for peer reviewMonitor and address sample backlog issuesMaintain accurate, up to date logs, notebooks, and equipment recordsPerform necessary laboratory administrative functions such as filing paperwork, photocopying, reviewing of data, and entering data into computerized LIMSComply with and promote Safety, and Quality programsMinimum QualificationsA person with a bachelor's degree in the chemical, environmental, physical or biological sciences, or engineering, with at least twenty-four (24) college semester credit hours in chemistry and at least two (2) years of appropriate experience in environmental analysis of representative organic analytes for which the laboratory is approved or seeking approval.  A masters or earned doctoral degree in one of the above disciplines may be substituted for one (1) year of experience.Basic knowledge of principles, terminology, practices, techniques and instrumentation commonly used in a laboratory setting.Ability to effectively prioritize work and manage time to meet deadlines and rush ordersComputer literacyAbility to work with delicate laboratory equipmentAbility to communicate effectively in both written and verbal formatsExperience with GC and GCMS is requiredKnowledge of EPA methodologies is requiredWORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSThe physical demands and working conditions described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
