The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority is responsible for thestewardship of the Port of Vancouver, Canada’s largest and most diversifiedport. Our mandate as a Canada Port Authority, as set out by the Canada MarineAct, is to enable Canada’s trade objectives, ensuring goods are moved safelyand responsibly through the Port of Vancouver. That means providinginfrastructure and ensuring the safe and efficient movement of marine trafficand cargo within the port. It also means we carry out reviews of proposed activitiesand developments on federal port lands and waters to determine whether aproject can go ahead without impacts to the environment and community thatcannot be mitigated.

The Operations Coordinator isresponsible for maintaining situational awareness and coordinating daily portoperations activities. This position is the first point of contact forcustomers and stakeholders regarding the entire range of marine and securityissues and is responsible for taking action, redirecting or escalating theresponse as appropriate. In addition, the Operations Coordinator coordinatesincident response and dispatches VFPA land and water resources as required.
What youdo:
·Coordinatesport operations promoting safety and efficiency in accordance with portpractices and procedures, gathers and interprets operational intelligence froma variety of sources and takes action accordingly.
·Evaluatesand responds to operational requirements directly or with guidance from theMarine Operations Specialist, Manager Marine Operations – Deputy/AssistantHarbour Master, Duty Harbour Master or representative.
·Monitorsmarine and land traffic movements anticipating potential operational issues andtaking preventive action.
·Coordinatesprovision of services to customers and ship agents including anchorageassignments and other vessel requests.
·Reviewsand processes service requests issuing permits and authorizations in accordancewith VFPA procedures.
·Monitorsand coordinates land traffic conditions and takes appropriate action to resolvecongestion issues.
·Workswith a variety of technical CCTV and other monitoring systems typical in anOperations Centre environment.
·Developsand maintains effective relationships with stakeholders, customers and variousregulatory agencies.
·Managesand controls effective communications during normal or emergencyoperations.
·Dispatchesport resources as required including harbour patrol, road patrol, maintenanceor contracted resources.
·Acore component of the position is to provide functional guidance to VFPA landand water resources; acts as a channel through which work is directed.
·Managesa variety of phone calls from customers, stakeholders as well as the public.
·Monitorsand reports on Port activities, developing situations and incidents within thePort environment, using all available resources including technology andsystems.
What you bring:
·Completionof a two year full time diploma in operations and logistics, transportation andlogistics or another acceptable discipline from a recognized post-secondaryinstitution and a minimum of three years related marine experience.
·Excellentknowledge of the port system and stakeholders and experience in emergency anddispatch is an asset.
·Musthave excellent computer skills and proficiency in MS Office Suite. Must be ableto work under pressure.
·Demonstratethe ability to use good judgment, make decisions, show initiative and takeresponsibility for situations when required.
·Exhibitthe ability to work effectively in teams demonstrating excellent communicationand interpersonal skills with internal and external contacts.
·Acustomer service, results orientated approach is required.

Working environment: Shift work entailingcontinuous coverage in normal office conditions. The three most senior incumbents will operateunder the fixed schedule and the other two incumbents will operate under theflex schedule.
