Position Summary
Characteristic Duties/Responsibilities
Support daily lab activities related to research projects and academic needs.
Support in creating, proofreading, and editing documents and presentations.
Design graphics and charts in reports and other documents.
Prepare documents needed in grant packages (Current and Pending Support, Biosketchs, Conflict of Interests, etc).
Handling expense reports and budgets.
Maintain and preserve records, reports, and documentation related to lab projects, reports, and accounting spreadsheets.
Assist in meetings, travel arrangements and reimbursements, and calendar organization.
Maintain web pages of the lab and social channels.
Order and maintain an inventory of office supplies to facilitate the functioning of the department or section.
Manages time and prioritizes using discretion to complete tasks, considering key deadlines and responsible action items necessary for the given assignment.
Performs duties normally associated with an Office Assistant III and Accounting Clerk II to assist in accomplishing the goals of the office.
Communication
Principal investigator – Responsible for coordinating office assistant duties to facilitate fully functioning day-to-day operations.
Lab staff and research associates – Coordinate communication to aid in the completion of tasks and activities in a timely manner.
Students – Connect for necessary business related to projects, travel, administration, and other areas of focus.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired in the first two or three years in college, technical school or related field; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in maintaining account ledgers, departmental operations, employment, or in performing tasks related to the area of employment; experience in word processing, editing and composing correspondence, and maintaining spreadsheets and/or databases; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates that demonstrate a strong and effective organizational attitude to working in a multifaceted research laboratory specializing in using digital technologies for sustainable agriculture and food systems.
Proficient with Microsoft suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook
A working understanding of some graphical design software, like Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, or Affinity Designer
Effective written and verbal communication between the people within the immediate group and any potential collaboration between outside organizations.
Enthusiasm about working in a diverse, collaborative, and connected group.
