About Occupational Health Nurse

  The Veterans’ Home in Holyoke is seeking an experienced and passionate healthcare professional to serve as the Occupational Health Nurse (Registered Nurse III). This position is responsible for developing and implementing employee health and safety programs, as well monitoring medical conditions for those who are out on a leave of absence. Additionally, this position will assist the Staff Development department by presenting various trainings on employee-related topics. */Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):/* * Coordinates the provision of pre-employment screening, testing and assessments for new employees in collaboration with the Human Resources Department to ensure that new employees meet the required standards to perform their assigned job duties. * Triages on-duty, work-related injuries as needed and ensures completion of related documentation within required time frames. * Coordinates the development of Temporary Modified Work Program for employees who have sustained work-related injuries in order to facilitate a safe return to work. * May provide care and/or assessment of on-duty illness by providing first aid, calling the in-house physician, or referring the employee to their own medical provider. * Coordinates the periodic offering of employee health screenings, immunizations and other health education programs such as non-smoking clinics, stress management, weight reduction, etc. * Responsible for exposure investigations, following protocols for employees with communicable disease (i.e. chickenpox, measles, MRSA, bed bugs, shingles, scabies, etc.); maintains spreadsheets of post-exposure incidents (i.e., tuberculosis, influenza, etc.); and responsible for notification of all employees identified as potentially exposed. * Coordinates and implements annual employee influenza vaccination program. * Maintains all employee health records with required health information. * Participates in new employee orientation and employee mandatory training programs in subject areas related to employee health/injury prevention and collects data to ensure employees are following facility policy and procedure related to safety. * Coordinates the development of employee health educational programs based on facility needs. * Regular communication and collaboration with Infection Prevention to ensure screening and surveillance of infection prevention and control related programs, including data management and reporting. * Consults with the nursing administration as necessary to ensure compliance with current clinical practice requirements. */Schedule:/* This is a full-time (40 hours/week) position working from 6:30 am – 3:00 pm, to include occasional flexed night and/or weekend hours. Please note: This is a 24 hour/7 days a week facility. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL LEVELS IN SERIES: Current and valid registration as a professional nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.* SPECIAL REQUIRMENTS: * o Must possess a current and valid CPR/Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association o Certification in Occupational Health Nursing (COHN) - if not at time of hire, then within one (1) year Recent graduates from an approved school of nursing must have applied for the first available registered nurse examination. Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's license may be required. *COVID Vaccine: As a condition of employment, depending on job assignment and location, employees may be required to have received COVID-19 vaccination and/or other vaccinations, or to have been approved for a vaccination exemption prior to their start date.
