JOB REQUIREMENTS: POSITION SPECIFICS Title: OB Technician FTE: 0.75 (60hours per pay period) Schedule: 12-hour night shifts, 6:45pm - 7:15amHoliday Rotation: Per Unit Guidelines Weekend Rotation: Every 3rdweekend POSITION SUMMARY The Ob Technician performs duties to ensure awell-organized unit by managing the flow of resources. The position alsoprovides direct patient care under the direction of the RegisteredNurse. In addition, will be responsible for support during complicatedor anticipated high risk vaginal births and other births as needed.Duties include establishment and maintenance of sterile field forsurgical procedures meeting the high standards of SPH, preparingsurgical suite, handling surgical instruments and equipment duringroutine and emergency operative cases, and assisting surgeons asdirected during procedures. POSITION TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIESCertified Nursing Assistant and Unit Secretary Responsibilities 1. Underthe direction of a Registered Nurse, provide direct patient care tomothers and newborns. 2. Answer telephones and respond to call lights.3. Take vitals on both mothers and newborns according to policy. 4.Perform newborn screening, including glucose and hearing screens. 5.Remove foley catheters and hepwell. 6. Perform set up, provideexplanations, and perform clean up for procedures, includingcircumcisions. 7. Set-up for newborn bilitherapy. 8. Participate inbedside report. 9. Serve as communication link between otherdepartments. 10. Perform SOS staffing calls using the Send Word Now. 11.Prepare, maintain and take down charts per unit protocol. 12. Manage andenter data into OB dashboard. 13. Scan in documentation to the EHR 14.Manage tasks of the infant security system 15. Assist in keeping thepatient rooms, supply rooms, and hallways neat, clean, orderly, andstocked. 16. Assist with discharge process such as a car seat check,accompanying a patient to their vehicle. 17. Report changes inpatient\'s physical or mental condition to the nurse. 18. Ensure a cleanand safe patient environment equipped with adequate supplies for eachpatient. 19. Document care provided per unit policies and actions takenin a timely and appropriate manner. 20. Comply with all SPH standards,policies, practices and procedures. Is knowledgeable about safetypolicies and prepared to report codes as needed. 21. Confirm permittedvisitors in coordination with the Welcome Desk staff. 22. Maintain aclean and orderly work area and entry vestibule. SurgicalResponsibilities 28. Establish and maintains sterile field for surgicalprocedures, including C-Sections 29. Plan, gather, and open instruments,equipment and supplies for surgical procedures. 30. Open operating roomand assist provider with emergent procedures. 31. Perform set up forprocedures, ready all instruments, equipment and supplies for the case.32. Assist with prepping and sterile draping of patients. 33. Assistsurgeons during procedures by passing instruments, holding retractors,clamping tissues and \"bleeders,\" and operating cameras and surgicalequipment. 34. Assist with closing of surgical wounds. 35. Responsiblefor all counts along with RN. 36. Assist with reprocessing andsterilization of all instruments. 37. Assist with cleaning of equipment,surgical suites, and storage rooms. POSITION REQUIREMENTS Education:Required: High School Degree of equivalent Preferred: Specializedtraining beyond high school normally gained in a program of less than 18months duration Experience: Required: None Preferred: Previousexperience as a nursing assistant working with procedures in a sterileenvironment and/or operating room experience.
