hanging baskets, greenhouse-grown specialty plants, and otherhorticultural varieties.
Duties related to general farm/nursery work may include the followingresponsibilities: maintain, drive, attach and operate farmimplements/tractors/equipment to till soil, plant, cultivate, fertilize,and harvest crops; make minor
mechanical adjustments and repairs on farm machinery; remove undesirableand excess growth from crops or farm grounds; lift, carry, andload/unload trucks and products or supplies; Plant, spray, weed,fertilize, water, and
prune plants, shrubs, and trees; Move containerized shrubs, plants, andtrees, using wheelbarrows or tractors; Participate in the inspection,grading, sorting, storage, and post-harvest treatment of crops; Harvestplants, and
transplant or pot and label them; mix/spray/apply chemicals such asherbicides, fungicides, pesticides, fertilizers, plant growth chemicals,and other plant related treatments (according to appropriate restrictiveuse laws,
when/if applicable) by hand or machine; haul/spread soil or products tocondition land; fill growing tanks with water; dig/rake and screen soiland fill cold frames/hot beds; perform general clean-up of farm areasand worksites;
clean fields after harvest; operate tractor/truck/forklift toload/unload products; work with augers, gas motors, generators andelectrical cords; watch gauges, dials, or other indicators to ensureproper machine operation; adjust
the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions; reportmechanical problems to farm mechanic and/or supervisor; remove rocksfrom rows in front of harvesting equipment; alert equipment operator ofequipment
clogging/malfunctions; aid operator in correct machine performance;perform any other labor considered necessary for the efficient structureof properties and growth of crops; workers possessing the properlicensure may be
asked to transport other farm workers.
Duties related to irrigation may include the following: connect pipes;check alignment of pipe and adjust for proper water distribution; attachlines to water supply; turn on pump; turn valves to start flow of water;disassemble
lines and carry pipes across fields at specified intervals; move pipesthrough freshly irrigated crops and/or plowed fields where mud may bedeep at times; lift and carry pipe sections weighing approximately 40pounds on a
sustained basis; move and lay drip irrigation equipment in fields;maintain and repair drip irrigation; flush drip irrigation lines; removedrip irrigation and lay flat from fields prior to harvest; observerevolving sprinklers and
adjust to ensure proper operation and uniform distribution of water;disassemble, service and store pipes/mainlines/wheel lines afterirrigation season; dig and maintain ditches.
Duties may also include extended evening hours due to crop demands. Workhours may vary and there may be periods when little or no work will beavailable due to weather, time of year, and the requirements of thecropping program.
