About the unit

　　9 Center is a 24 bed Med/Surg unit at Butterworth Hospital that cares for the general medical and surgical patients. Employees are often drawn to 9-Center for the variety of patients and the team environment. Our employees become competent in caring for a large array of both surgical and medical patients. Specifically, our team is known as being experts in nasogastric tubes, urinary catheters and urologic care, managing enteral and parenteral feeding, and managing the care of wounds, ostomies, tubes and drains. Additional unique skills that those hired to 9-Center will learn include administration of peritoneal dialysis, utilization of Endotool for continuous insulin drip management, epidural administration of medications and the care of post-kidney donation patients.

　　Scope of work

　　Acts as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider. Performs basic skills per department guidelines and communicates observations to members of the health care team. Collects and reports physiological, psychological, sociocultural and spiritual needs of patients and families in coordination with and as delineated by the RN or Provider. Responsibilities include taking vitals, checking blood sugars, bed bathing, ambulating, wound care, catheterization and acting as a safety attendant for patients. Ensures that the required documentation is performed in an accurate and timely manner.
