Job Summary
Under general supervision, works as full member of the MICUmulti-professional critical care team. Contributes to excellence in patientcare, research, teaching, and provides leadership to the organization.Functions as a medical intensives under the supervision of the MICU Directoror his designee. Collaborates with resident physicians in internal medicineand manages the critical care aspects of the assigned patient's intensivecare stay in the MICU and progressive care unit (PCU) from admission totransfer or discharge. Demonstrates an advanced level of medical and nursingknowledge, clinical/technical competence including expertise in centralline insertion, airway intubation, arterial cannulation, lumbar punctureand siThis job is anticipated to be a weekday only position initially but may expandto 24/7 coverage requiring days, nights and weekends in the future. TheCCNP will additionally have responsibility for quality and performance metricsand improvements in conjunction with the MICU leadership, and will berequired to contribute to educational and research activities in the MICU/PCU.
Essential Functions:
Performs and documents in the medical record a complete history and physicalexamination for acute and complex chronically ill patients. (15%)Orders and collects data using appropriate assessment techniques, relevantsupporting diagnostic information and diagnostic procedures where indicated.(15%)Assesses for risks associated with the care of the acute and complexchronically ill patient including medication side effects, immobility,impaired nutrition, fluid and electrolyte imbalance, immunocompetence,invasive interventions and diagnostic procedures. (10%)Coordinates daily rounds with the Attending and Intensivist physician teams,presents 24 hour patient report, and collaborates in plan of care. (10%)May serve as the first responder for both nursing and house staff in the eventof patient status changes, orders, and in situations requiring proceduraland resuscitative interventions. (10%)Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care team in making diagnoses ofacute and complex chronic conditions.
