Summary:
The Advanced Practice Provider functions collaboratively with physicians in the Orthopedic Practice. The APP autonomously performs patient assessments, diagnosis and implements an appropriate plan of care and performs orthopedic therapeutic procedures as defined by approved protocols. The APP prescribes a variety of treatment modalities to meet patient care needs in the defined patient population up to and including hospital admissions/discharges, clinic visits and prescriptive authority. The APP delivers competent and skilled care to patients and families according to their identified needs. Care is based on the nursing process and the medical plan of treatment. The APP will deliver care with a team orientation, an emphasis on good customer relations, sound clinical judgment and appropriate decision-making abilities that take into consideration evidenced based practice. . Provides practice/clinic coverage for physician(s) during periods of absence. Prescribes a variety of modalities to meet wellness and illness needs, up to and including hospital admission/discharge, assisting in surgery (if applicable) and prescriptive authority.
Education & Experience
Nurse Practitioner: 1. Graduate of an accredited nursing program 2. Masters of Science in Nursing required 3. Minimum two years of pediatric nursing experience or 2 years experience as an FNP in a primary or acute care setting.

Physician Assistant: 1. Graduate of an approved accredited Physician Assistant program; 2. Masters of Science as a Physician Assistant required. (PAs not meeting this educational requirement will be considered based on experience and will be required to attain Masters of Science as a PA within 2 years of date of hire.) 3. Minimum two years pediatric experience in Orthopedic specialty clinic or Orthopedic acute care setting/surgery setting required.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification
Nurse Practitioner: 1. Current permit or license to practice professional nursing in the State of Texas 2. Recognition from the BNE as an Advanced Practice Nurse, Certification as a Pediatric or Family Practice Nurse Practitioner 3. Current BLS 4. Current RNFA licensure if planning to assist in the OR. 5. Current certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support preferred

Physician Assistant: 1. Current licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant in the state of Texas. 2. Recognition from the State Board of Medical Examiners as a Physician Assistant. Certification as a Physician Assistant PA-C required, 3. Current certification in Basic Life Support, 4. Current certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support preferred.
