  Job Summary:

  The Division of Transplant Surgery is seeking an energetic individual for a full-time Advance Practice Provider (APP) position to join the growing Abdominal Transplant Surgery and Lung Transplant Programs for night coverage. The position will hold the title of Instructor of Surgery within the Division of Transplant Surgery of the University of Colorado. The Individual hired will work directly with transplant surgery faculty.

  The position will be primarily inpatient with primary assignment to the abdominal transplant surgery and lung transplant program.

  Key Responsibilities:

  Evaluate and manage medical and surgical complications of abdominal transplant as well as medical complications of lung transplant requiring hospital admission. This includes obtaining a thorough history and physical exam, ordering appropriate testing, enacting a treatment plan, and counseling patients regarding their condition and prognosis.

  Evaluate and manage patients who are candidates for abdominal organ transplant surgery. This includes obtaining a thorough history and performing an appropriate physical examination and ordering appropriate testing with particular attention to transplant surgery related co-morbidities and post-operative complications. Monitoring compliance with diet, exercise, and behavior modifications and providing education about the risks and benefits of the surgical procedures is also expected.

  See and evaluate patients in the hospital, provide documentation, an assessment and care plan for the inpatient stay and discharge care planning.

  Evaluate and manage patients with urgent or emergent complaints with the surgeon, pulmonologist or fellow.

  Participate in clinic sponsored educational opportunities.

  Perform procedures and assist in the operating room as needed and if desired.

  Provide monitoring and continuity of care for patients between physician visits.

  Attend required meetings and participate in committees as requested.

  Maintain competency and enhance professional growth and development through continuing education, through attending clinic-sponsored educational opportunities, conferences, and seminars for mandatory training.

  Work Location:

  Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado.

  Qualifications:

  Minimum Qualifications:

  Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  NP Minimum Qualifications :

  Proper education and licensing/certification for a Nurse Practitioner.

  Must be eligible for certification with independent prescriptive authority.

  Meets and maintains specific requirements of the Nursing Credential Review Board

  PA Minimum Qualifications :

  Proper education and licensing/certification for a Physician Assistant.

  Must be eligible for certification with independent prescriptive authority.

  Meets and maintains specific requirements of the Medical Review Board

  NP/PA Preferred Qualifications:

  Transplant or inpatient medicine experience is preferred.

  Minimum 2 years of experience as an Advanced Practice Provider.

  Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with a diverse professional and patient population.

  Knowledge of and ability to interpret organizational policies, regulations, and procedures to administer patient care and a safe work environment.

  Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care.

  Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of medicine and surgery to provide on-going patient care.

  Skill in taking medical history, assessing medical condition, maintaining records and reports, and interpreting findings.

  Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients and their family members, medical staff, residents, fellows, medical students, and the public.

  Ability to maintain quality control standards.

  Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

  The starting salary range ( or hiring range ) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

  $106,808 -$145,496

  The above salary range ( or hiring range ) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
