About Network Engineer-Business Engineering

  Description

  JOB PURPOSE:

  Design, enhance, and maintain all aspects of the Midco Business Network.

  KEY FUNCTIONS:

  Engineer and design the Business Network to meet customer demand.

  Leads technical projects, upgrades, and deployments.

  Support, maintain and upgrade existing Business Network. Install new hardware to stay ahead of customer demand.

  Execute test plans to facilitate vendor selection for new Business product offerings.

  Develop MOPs and tools to ease the deployment of new service orders and network configurations.

  Evaluate new vendor hardware and software.

  Work on customer trouble tickets and resolve outages on the Business Network.

  Work with vendors for design, installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.

  Participate in an on-call rotation.

  Mentor intra/inter-departmental peers.

  Use knowledge and analytics to improve the Business network and processes.

  Follow and serve as a role model in displaying Midco’s Core Values and Leadership Success Drivers.

  Adhere to Midco’s privacy guidelines to ensure each customer’s privacy.

  Maintain regular attendance as required by your position.

  Cisco hardware and software knowledge.

  Knowledge on packet capture setup and analysis.

  Working knowledge of MEF Standards.

  Working knowledge of network protocols and technologies including TCP/IP, OSI Model, IPv4, IPv6, SIP, IP Video, ACL’s, Spanning Tree, MP-BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, IS-IS, MPLS, MPLS-TE, L2VPN, L3VPN, H-QoS, SD-WAN and transport technologies.

  Working knowledge of network monitoring and management tools including, SolarWinds, AKIPS, WAE, NSO, NETCONF, YANG, syslog and telemetry.

  Must be able to travel when necessary.

  Operate and drive a Company vehicle in accordance with all Midco policies including maintaining a safe driving record.

  Compile timely, comprehensive, and accurate reports as requested.

  Follow and serve as a role model in displaying Midco’s Core Values and Leadership Success Drivers.

  Adhere to Midco’s privacy guidelines to ensure each customer’s privacy.

  ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  Train Technology Group personnel and other group members as necessary.

  Mentor new hires and existing staff as required.

  Effectively communicate with other departments to handle escalating issues in a timely manner.

  Support the mission, vision and values of Midco.

  Collaborate effectively with internal and external customers to ensure exceptional service.

  Demonstrate courage by tackling tough issues while acknowledging own limitations without compromising integrity.

  Remove obstacles for team members. Encourage creative solutions.

  Apply personal ethics, honesty, initiative, flexibility, responsibility and confidentiality in all areas of responsibility.

  Communicate clear expectations that set a high bar while holding team members accountable to reach these goals.

  Demonstrate business acumen by using data to drive decisions and actions.

  finding ways to cut through ambiguous problems.

  Identify root causes of problems and implement solutions while keeping a holistic and long-term perspective in mind.

  Actively follow Midco policies and procedures.

  Perform other duties as assigned.

  EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

  Network Engineer I:

  • Associate’s degree in related industry and/or equivalent work experience required.• Minimum 7 years relevant experience required. Previous experience in telecommunications industry.preferred.• CCNA or JNCIA required.

  Network Engineer II:

  Associate’s degree in related industry and/or equivalent work experience required.

  Minimum 9 years relevant experience required. Previous experience in telecommunications industry preferred.

  CCNA or JNCIA required.

  Network Engineer III:

  Bachelor’s degree required and/or relevant experience required.

  Minimum 11 years relevant networking experience required. Previous telecommunication industry experience preferred.

  CCNP or JNCIP certification required.

  Network Engineer IV:

  Bachelor’s degree required and/or relevant experience required.

  Minimum 13 years relevant networking experience required.

  CCNP or JNCIP certification required.

  WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or carry loads of up to 50 lbs.

  The noise level in the work environment is moderate.

  Employees may be required to work in excess of 40 hours per week and other than normal business hours, such as holidays, evenings and weekends as business demands.
