  Job Overview

  The Behavioral Health Specialist - Intensive Services is responsible fordirect patient care and safety including supervision and management ofchildren and adolescents hospitalized for severe psychiatric symptoms and areat risk for endangering themselves or other; performs duties and deliverstherapeutic interventions under the direction of a registered nurse orlicensed psychiatric professional. This position may encounter potentiallyvolatile care situations that could result in bodily harm.

  Department: Neuropsychiatric Special CareHours per week: 24, eligible for benefitsShift: Shift: Part-Time 24 hrs per weekDay combination of 8hr and 12hr shifts (7a-7p, 7a-3p, 3p-11p). Someevenings, weekends, and holidays required.

  Qualifications

  Education: Bachelor's degree with a minor in psychology or related fieldEquivalency: Professional relevant experience may substitute for thebachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.Certification(s): Healthcare Provider BLS/CPR certification

  POPULATION SPECIFIC CARENeonate - 30 days to 1yrToddlers - >1yr to 3yrsPre-Schoolers - >3yrs to 5yrsSchool age - >5yrs to 13yrsAdolescent - >13yrs to 18yrsAdult - >18yrs to 65yrsESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSAn employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of thefollowing essential functions. These examples do not include all of thefunctions which the employee may be expected to perform.Provides direct patient care and management of children and adolescentshospitalized for severe psychiatric symptoms, autism spectrum disorder,developmental delays and are at a high risk of endangering themselves orothers while under the direction of a registered nurse or licensed psychiatricprofessional.Delivers therapeutic interventions while under the direction of a registerednurse or licensed psychiatric professional.Leads, monitors and collaborates educational and therapeutic groups forpatients.Participates in clinical rounds, maintains communication with unit ordepartment leadership.Responds as part of the Be avioral Assistance Resource Team; providesassistance to patients, family members or visitors 18 years of age andyounger exhibiting the potential for harm to self or others.Ensures proper documentation of patient progress; completes 15-minutepatient checks; provides one-to-one patient observation and or milieumanagement.Assists new hires as required.Attends educational in-services for Behavior Specialists; participates inunit committees and educational offerings.Collaborates with other disciplines or departments on patient care and unitsafety.
