About National Investigative Correspondent

  Hearst Television is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated, creative, innovative, and thoughtful investigative correspondent to help lead our National Investigative Unit. This unit has the unique responsibility of developing and owning original stories of national relevance while highlighting and delivering the local impact across our markets. Content from the National Investigative Unit is distributed in many formats: television, digital and streaming platforms, newspapers, and more. The Correspondent works closely with local stations, offering guidance and collaborating on local and national investigative coverage. The Correspondent will also work closely with the Washington News Bureau, which is responsible for daily coverage of politics, breaking news, and special events.

  Candidates for the role of National Investigative Correspondent should be focused on fact-based journalism that gives deeper context on big stories and relevant topics while incorporating transparency as part of the reporting. Candidates must have a deep understanding of investigative journalism; be a skilled storyteller who can find unique angles, think outside the box, and deliver the real impact on viewers from an issue or problem; have experience developing high-level sources; be skilled at navigating public records and public records requests; be an effective communicator with exceptional time-management skills and a collaborative leader who thrives in a team environment where every voice is heard. This correspondent is based in Washington, DC and works closely with and reports to the Director of Special Projects and Group Initiatives.

  Job Responsibilities:

  Day-to-day leadership of the investigative team, including seamlessly working with producers, photographers, editors, digital teams, creative and design teams, legal, and local stations, to gather content and produce enterprise stories. Curate, research, and pitch unique story ideas, including stories and themes tied to groupwide initiatives. Produce national-level investigative journalism, with an emphasis on conceiving unique, visual content to illustrate information, data, and documents in a creative and engaging way. Data journalism experience is a plus. Daily communication and collaboration with the Washington News Bureau to explore opportunities for day-turn stories tied to national or regional news events. Collaborate across other media divisions to share content and develop experiential content. Coordinate interviews, shoot schedules, and crews as needed for storytelling and reporting opportunities. Work efficiently under deadline pressure to respond to breaking news and single day content production.Qualification Requirements:

  A self-starter with an exceptional ability to work under pressure, make quick decisions, and organize and prioritize multiple projects at once. Experience in investigative journalism, dynamic writing and storytelling, and live reporting. Ability to assist with carrying equipment for interviews and shoots. Must have a valid driver's license and a near-perfect driving record.Experience Requirements:

  Candidates should have at least 5 years of on-air experience and a background in investigative journalism.
