Museum Educator - The Mob Museum
Position Overview:
Educators initiate one-on-one and small group interactions, including gallery tours, mediated experiences (crime lab, distillery tour), lead guided tours, participate in public programs, and delivery educational outreach activities at schools and other off-site locations. Reporting to the Guest Experience Manager, these individuals will maintain a flexible schedule to deliver a diverse menu of content delivery to an array of groups and individuals in the Museum and in the community, with the primary goal of promoting the organization’s mission of advancing the public understanding of organized crime’s history and impact on American society.
Major Tasks and Responsibilities:
Lead energetic and informative guided tours that enhance the guest experience, grow revenue and add value for private events.
Lead energetic and informative tour experiences for student groups.
Initiate and engage in one-on-one and small group interactions with guests that enhance the Museum experience.
Deliver energetic and informative presentations in schools and before civic and cultural groups.
Participate in programs that involve artifact-handling and demonstration of off-display artifacts
Maintain a strong and ever-evolving knowledge of organized crime and law enforcement history and related contemporary issues.
Embrace a work schedule that demands significant flexibility to meet the needs of a diverse menu of educational programs.
Aid in fostering an organizational culture that values innovation, promotes inclusion, and inspires excellence in the work environment.
Experience / Qualifications / Requirements:
Minimum of one year of experience in guest services or educational programming in an educational, cultural or entertainment attraction.
Will be required to meet base-level content and delivery standards within 90 days of commencement in position.
Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
Strong public speaking and written communication skills are a must.
Able to interact effectively with a broad spectrum of age levels and cultural backgrounds.
Proven ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, vendors, community organizations, and the public.
Software competency in Word and PowerPoint.
Flexible, innovative, self-motivated, and able to work independently.
Passion for creating a world-class museum that is unrivaled in content and recognized for a truly outstanding guest experience.
Enthusiasm for working in an organization where change is frequent, structure is evolving, and flexibility, teamwork, and good humor are absolute necessities.
Proficiency in languages in addition to English is a plus.
Ability to stand for extended periods, and walk through exhibit spaces is required.
Valid driver’s license in good standing (consistent with Museum’s Fleet Policy) is required.
Background / Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Education, History, or a related field, or relevant work experience, is preferred.
Salary Range
$17.00 - $19.00/ hour; Part-Time
